Overview

We all love the sound of a P-90 Pickup. You can find traditional P90 “Scream” on countless records. Many guitarists rely on a P90 to give them that aggressive, versatile tone. It’s Rock & Roll, Jazz, R&B, Funk, Blues, and Country all rolled into one. The only problem with the P90 is the hum – and we’ve taken care of that problem for you. Our hum cancelling P90 replacements give you all P90 tone, without the hum. Join countless guitarists and discover why our Hum-Cancelling P90 was our best-selling pickup of 2017 and 2018.

Sound

Fralin Stock Set of Hum Cancelling P90 Replacements are like our regular Fralin P90’s, only thicker, darker, and with no hum. You can expect a thick, darker, round bottom-end, and a rounder, less aggressive top-end, with a clear, fat midrange in-between. Our Hum Cancelling P 90 still has that undeniable thick single-coil tone that you love, only with no hum at all. Single notes have a punchy, compressed sonic footprint and have great sustain. Chords break up nicely with slight compression and excellent note separation.

The Output is almost identical to our Stock P-90’s, and they sound incredibly similar – just a little thicker in the midrange. Fralin hum-canceling P-90 Replacements offer undeniable clarity and definition while remaining strong, fat, thick, and punchy. Need a jazzier tone? We can use Alnico 6 Magnets. Want a cleaner and more Fender sparkle? Check out our Alnico Rod Version.

Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. Hum-Cancelling P90s consists of a precision injection mold and USA-Made Steel Screws. We use aggressive USA-Made Neodymium magnets to make this model scream. Each bobbin is carefully inspected and cleaned before winding.

We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.

FAQs

FAQS:

  1. What’s the tonal difference between this and your Stock P90? The Hum Cancelling P90 is slightly louder, darker, and thicker. It’s quicker to break up, and has no hum!
  2. What output do I choose? Our most popular set is the Stock Neck & Bridge. Going with a +5% output from Stock will thicken and darken the tone. Going with a -5% will clean up and reduce the midrange, making it sound more articulate and clear.
  3. What lead do I choose? This depends on your guitar and a few other things. Gibson Lead: Go with this if installing a set into a Gibson-style instrument, where each pickup has its respective volume pot. 2-Conductor: Go with this lead if buying a Single, or installing into a Fender-style instrument.
  4. What’s the String Spacing? 49.5mm.
  5. I don’t see what I’m looking for? We can do some custom work, for sure. However, we’re not tooled-up for certain things, like Nickel Dogear Covers. Contact us if you’re not seeing something you’re looking for.
  6. How far away from the strings does the pickup need to be? Push your Low E String down at the highest fret. Measure from the top of the pole piece to the bottom of the string. The ideal starting location should be 1/8″ on the bass string, and 1/16″ on the treble string when the High E string is pushed down at the highest fret.

    So kick ass!!

Sorry for the rhetoric, but this is the most delicious pickup I’ve ever heard! I installed it in the bridge position. It plays nice with the pre-existing pickups in my guitar. It’s both creamy and snotty at the same time. In other words- not brash at all- it just sings! Thank you!

  2. Roger Redmon (verified owner)

I’m getting a great sound from my Les Paul Junior. your pickup is clear and clean, even with heavy distortion. I play through a 5150 head and a Marshall 1960 A cab. it sounds great. thanks for the pickup

    Super quiet and great-sounding pickups

Love them! Great customer service very helpful! Lindy took the time to talk with me and get exactly what I was looking for in some P-90s. I have other Lindy’s pickups in three of my other guitars and there AWESOME in build and sound! Highly recommend any of his pickups to anyone wanting to upgrade their Guitar.

  4. Jason Murphy (verified owner)

Noiseless perfection! This pickup is awesome! So glad I pulled the trigger on this one!

    I’ve found my Brand!

My Lindy Fralin single dogear pup went into my New Model LP Junior. I’m working on a particular project that requires the distinct bite of my 59 LPJ but obviously I don’t want to drag out my vintage guitar for a project requiring commuting. So having used various brands of P-90’s I decided to call Lindy Fralin. I told him what I had and what I was looking to accomplish. Couple of weeks later I was installing this hum canceling P-90 that fits like a glove. While I was in there I added an Emerson pre-wired volume/tone module. The magic was immediate, I got that 59 bites and spark and have a new favorite guitar for this project. Compatible with my few pedals. There is no fair comparison to the stock pup and pots I removed. Now I know why Lindy Fralin Pickups are in the top 5. For my money, they are Number One! Thanks Lindy.

    Hum-Cancelling P90 on Gibson Acoustic
It’s a good pickup, I’m very pleased with the sound. I mounted it on my Gibson Advanced Jumbo so I could get an electric sound on my acoustic guitar. See this thread for the whole story. https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=583381

After being blown away with the Fralin single coils on both my Tele and Strat…and then putting the Fralin PAFs on my Epi 339, I couldn’t wait to swap out the P-90s on a new Epi Les Paul Special TV yellow which just arrived. Wow… Thick, Chunky, and Punchy and best of all NO HUM. Did I say WOW. Makes you want to turn your Amp up and ROCK. Thanks, Lindy and staff for a Great product and Great service.

    Amazing product

Being a P90 addict, I was in search of a solution to keep the growl of the original P90 without the hum. A quest for the Grail that eventually ended up with Fralin Hum-Cancelling P90. Beyond my wettest dreams, it is an amazing response. My Goldtop has never sounded like this before. No doubt Fralin provides the best product in its category.

P90 sound without the wicked hum

I’ve installed the dog ear in an LP style Junior, with a .022 cap. I was blown away by the pure tone. U can fuzz it up with gain, etc. but this pickup, for me sounds incredibly clean. Consider purchasing the shims if u are not sure how n height. They are exact fits. Thanks so much for great craftsmanship.

    Live up to the name!

I love my new Fralin hum-cancelling P90s. They are as advertised and will not disappoint. I would not hesitate for a moment to put these in your guitar. Lindy Fralin has been able to do this for a living, for a long time, for a reason.

  12. Eric Hanks (verified owner)

    Best P-90 I’ve ever used

Honestly, these pickups blow the stock Gibson’s out of the water. They are hotter, thicker, and much meaner. And on top of that, they still clean up as a good P-90 should. These have made my Gibson SG Classic my secret weapon. Oh, and the raw nickel finish is very unique and beautiful.

  13. David Van Moorlehem

I purchased a Noiseless P-90 with stock output from an international online retailer for an inexpensive classic-inspired P-90 guitar that I recently bought. My reasoning was that the pickup would dramatically improve the sound of this budget guitar, while I saved for a high end version of a classic mahogany set-neck guitar. Additionally I factored in that I would likely install the pickup in the better guitar later. This pickup has transformed the sound of the budget guitar. I agree with the many other reviewers that this pickup is a fantastic noiseless rendition. It has the harmonics, touch sensitivity, dynamic range and above all, the magic tone I associate with classic P-90’s. The voicing is superb. I spent the first two days playing match the tone with classic albums that featured killer P-90 tones. Early Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Slade, Mountain, and Trapeze…this pickup made matching the character of those excellent tones quite easy. Well done Lindy! This pickup absolutely deserves its stellar reputation. And yes it is incredibly quiet!

  14. Fred Coury

AMAZING! Hi, My name is Fred Coury. I’m a tv composer in LA. Erik Goresh installed noiseless p-90’s in my gold top Les Paul and I’m blown away. I was afraid that I couldn’t use the guitar on my show as it was so noisy. Once your pickups went in, that guitar instantly became my favorite Les Paul in my collection and has been used on every episode since!
Thanks for making such a great product!!

I have a PRS McCarty, all mahogany (maybe Korina, I’m not sure how to tell the difference). I put a hum cancelling P90 in the bridge spot and a hum cancelling alnico rod P90 in the neck position. The bridge pickup is a bit lower output than the original (Lindy said it would be), but wow I love how they sound. Even besides the hum cancelling part, they really hit the spot. I was concerned about losing the guttural tone that the guitar has, but no worries, these pickups do it justice.

  16. Kenneth Smith (verified owner)

Wonderful pickup, but they’re not 100% “authentic” P90s

… which is fine. Now that I know what they are, I’ll use them when appropriate. My reference comparison is Kinman noiseless P90s. The Fralins are more humbucker sounding. More even, uniform frequency response. More compressed, fewer transients, smoother, creamier. Not as articulate, airy, or “hollow” sounding. They are also SIGNIFICANTLY lower output. That being said, I do like them. But I would choose the Fralins for a rock-oriented sound, not a clean or crunch blues sound where picking dynamics are really important. The Fralins are wonderful and are very focused and tight, but they have a smoothness to them. They aren’t a “rude and nasty” pickup. They have a slightly compressed sound that’s really fat – sort of reminds me of the creamy smoothness of Joe Bonamassa or Warren Hayes, but tighter and more focused. Very nice indeed, but without the extreme articulation and openness of a really authentic vintage sound. But don’t get me wrong. They’re STILL light years better than Duncan offerings for example. This is a very versatile pickup. And a lot of people will like it. I’d say most will. Except if you’re looking for true vintage, I’d choose Kinman by a substantial margin. But if authenticity isn’t important, then these are a great option. They have their own thing going and sound unique to me. And their unique sound is a very good thing to my ears.

  17. Gary White

Great pickups. I couldn’t be happier…I’ve had a lot of trouble with my ’65 Gibson ES-330. When I bought the guitar in 1990 the neck pickup consisted of a Gibson black label humbucker screwed into the nickle dog-ear cover. The bridge was original, but was very quiet and was basically unusable. In ’98 I found a replacement for the neck pickup in a short dog ear. It had a chrome cover that I hated, but it’s what I had to use. I eventually got the same brand to replace the Gibson bridge pickup. The sound was passable I guess, but I was never happy with it. So after many years of barely playing my main guitar I finally found the money to get Fralin replacements. The sound is awesome and I’m finally happy with my guitar. It is finished now, it is in the shape I wanted it in. So very happy with my purchase. Thinking of getting some humbuckers for a Jazz guitar I have. 5 out of 5.

  18. Peter Lees

I had noise canceling P90’s put in my thin line Guild Newark Collection (ES-125) single coil guitar. There is NO NOISE!!
They sound fantastic! Thank you ??

  19. Scott Coutant (verified owner)

They sound so much better than the Gibsons that came in my 56 reissue Les Paul

  20. Tyler Marshall (verified owner)

    No more noise!

My 2019 Les Paul Jr. is a fantastic guitar but was useless to me in most clubs with bad power due to the p90 hum. This pickup solved that issue for me and the jr. is seeing a ton of stage and studio time. I will be buying more of these for my P90 equipped guitars! Thanks guys!

  21. Vincent Thibault (verified owner)

I really love my new pickup but I was a little disappointed that I got sent a bridge pickup that was meant to be mounted to the pickguard even if I didn’t need that so I had to poke the screws thru the wax and stuff which wasn’t ideal. Sound-wise pickup is awesome!!

  22. Dean Kirby (verified owner)

Just what I needed! I put this in a Les Paul copy that I really like. It is the third pick up I have tried. The original (bought the guitar used) was some sort of aftermarket, not sure the maker. I put in a Duncan, too much noise. This one did the trick and sounds awesome! Thanks

  23. Alan Grobert (verified owner)

Sound as advertised, hum gone. A real humdinger, as it were. Installed on a Godin 5th Ave.

  24. Sean McCloskey (verified owner)

Put a +%5 overwound bridge and regular neck in my PRS SE 277 Semi-hollow Baritone and was completely blown away by how good the guitar sounds. The clean and dirty tones are just amazing!

  25. Zach Norton (verified owner)

    Overwound Bridge

Sounds phenomenal, no hum, easy to install, wouldn’t hesitate to order again

  26. Keola Donaghy

I recently built a Gibson LP Double Cutaway using a body from Precision Guitar Works, and a pair of Fralin Noiseless P-90s with RS Guitarworks wiring harness. It took about four months beginning to end, but my Lord, it is the most amazing sounding instrument I’ve ever played. It’s my first P90-equipped guitar, and the sparkle/chime, body and tightness of the tone is beyond belief. I really did not expect the flexibility that this configuration was going to give me – I thought was really going to be just a niche guitar in my toolbox, but now envision so much more. This is my third Fralin installation (I have Pure PAFs in an Ibanez AS73 and Split Blades in my Tele), and have been progressively happier with each install. Mahalo Lindy and crew!!

  27. Kire Najdovski (verified owner)

    Best Hum Cancelling P90 Pickups
Def the best pickups out on the market. Big game changer! If you need some really great quality pickups don’t hesitate to get these bad boys, as well as any other pickups made by Fralin!
Love it. Keep up the great job!

  28. James Collodoro (verified owner)

Awesome pickup. True to a P90 without the hum! Love it.

  29. Robert Bain (verified owner)

Warmth! Plenty of output. Much warmer than the 5% over P90. Nice detail.

  30. Tommy Hall (verified owner)

Quiet as a mouse until you want to drive them and then they growl like a P90 should. These are the 9th set of Fralin pickups I have bought and installed in my new builds. Love each one. Great pickups and great service.
