The Fralin P-J Set is the ultimate replacement for any P-J Configured Bass. It utilizes our Stock P-Bass Pickups along with our Split Jazz Bridge to give you an amazing, noiseless tone in all positions.

Raised Centers For Bridge?

Choose this option if you want raised center pole piece magnets on your bridge. This helps with string balance on fingerboards with a radius of less than 9.5 inches.

The Fralin P-J Set includes our Stock P-Bass pickup, and our noiseless and rich Split Jazz Bridge. Our P-J Set is noiseless in all positions, with a fat and rich tone. Our Split Jazz Bridge has a Left-Right coil design, which sounds better than stacked coils. The Fralin P-J Set gives you more snarl on your bridge, and deep lows on your neck.

  • Original Fender specifications, with modern output
  • Overwound Noiseless Bridge for noiseless operation across all positions
  • USA-made Alnico 5 Magnets for optimal tonal balance and output
  • Hand-wound with our “Sectioning” technique for unique, dynamic tone
  • Hand-built fiberboard Bobbins for unrivaled quality control
  • 10-Year Warranty on manufacturing defects

The Fralin P-J Set is the best sounding P-J Pickup Set you can buy. Alnico 5 Magnets and our hand wound coils give this P-J Set an impressive range and articulation. Expect deep, rich lows and a top end sparkle – all across a warm and fat midrange. The P-Bass pickup has an even balance across highs and lows. The compensated Split Jazz Bridge focuses more on a thicker midrange snarl. The volume is equal across all positions. The Fralin P-J Set will breathe life into your bass by extending it’s range and dynamics.

  1. What’s the difference between the Split Jazz and Normal Jazz Bass? The Split Jazz is a little thicker and darker sounding, with a tad bit more output.
  2. Can I customize any of the outputs? Sure! Just request them in the Notes field on the checkout screen.
  3. How do I orient the pickups? We always recommend installing with the Black Lead coming out of the treble side.
  4. Help! I installed them, and they are out of phase! No problem. Just reverse one of the pickups’ leads in the control cavity (swap White and Black).
  5. Do you have Foam or Mounting Plates?  As it turns out we don’t. You can use the styrofoam wrap the pickup was shipped in to mount the pickup – we use that all the time.
  6. Wiring Diagrams? Here!

We use Vintage Specifications. Alnico 5 Magnets.  42-Gauge Heavy Formvar wire on the P-Bass, 43 Gauge SPN Wire on the Split Jazz Bass. Hand-made Bobbins.

Ohm Readings
P-Bass is 11K, Split Jazz Bridge is 11.6K.

Amazing. I got my pickups installed two days before a recording session in Bozeman MT. I was a bit nervous recording with basically untested equipment. We finished our first track and the engineer came out. I thought maybe he was having issues. Instead, he said “I can barely tell the difference between the DI and the two mics I have on your cabinet. This is probably the best P-Bass tone I’ve heard.” These pickups are absolutely amazing!!!

Noiseless, and great balance across strings. Chords are no longer mushy. Much more usable bridge pickup than what I got from the factory. This is a winning set.

I just built a Warmoth bass with your PJ pickups. Wired them like you said in the diagram on the website and they sound wonderful! Thank you, Walter Linzell

I bought an aerodyne because I love the body shape and all black with no pick guard looks fantastic unfortunately it didn’t look as good as it sounded. I shopped and shopped annoyed a local luthier and then ignored his geezer butler suggestion and went with fralins and couldn’t be happier. From highs to lows, percussive to melodic. They proved to me the impact pickups have on time is second to only the player. And the quality of sound is matched to the quality of the build as well. Nice wiring, routed perfectly, magnets evenly spaced with and options to overwind and raise poles. Buy fralins 1st so you don’t have to buy them 2nd,

I bought a 5% overwound P and 10% overwound J set. I couldn’t be happier. I wanted low mid-bite and growl, less high-end clack, something this set delivers in spades. While stock windings deliver a more traditional sound, this set is more versatile when it comes to shaping low mids which is where I live. Using a blend pot rather than 2 volume pots gives these pickups voicings you do not get from a “stock” Fender, from warm Motown to Jaco punch. I’ve bought over a dozen sets of Fralins for bass and guitar over the years, they are sonically the best you can buy and I say that from 50 years of playing experience 😉

    Pickups on Steroids
The very first note played I could hear the difference of the pickups. It’s like, playing with a compressor only without it if you know what I mean. Every note played came out solid, clean and clear. Thanks to the people who work at The Lindy Fralin company, now I am a “ Happy Man “ sung by Chicago.
Aloha and A Hui Hou, until next time

Aerodyne replacements – Great sound. The Jazz pickup really adds to the overall tonal quality. Thinking of changing to flat wounds. This is my second bass that has a set of Fralins, best decision ever.

Excellent replacement set for my ’77 Fender PJ
These are some of the nicest pickups I’ve heard. They have given new life to my old ’77 Fender PJ fretless. No hum, no buzz. Worth every penny.

    Great pickups!
I installed these P-J pickups in an inexpensive Fender Jaguar bass. They certainly live up to their description. Super quiet, even at full volume! Great warm sound and the Jazz Bridge pickup is actually useable. Even though they cost more than the bass itself, it was well worth it. I chose Fralin pickups because I also have Fralin PAFs in my Les Paul and Split Coils in my Telecaster (also amazingly quiet) and have been happy with all of them.

I dropped these into a 2006 MIM Fender P-bass about a year ago. Whoa! This was my backup bass and it was suddenly competing with my main! I’ve since turned the MIM into a fretless with flatwounds. It goes “Grrrr.” It’s badass. I went with the +5% and couldn’t be happier: growl, bottom end, and a top that doesn’t annoy. Love ’em.

Let me put this in terms we can all understand….
Your current pickups are like buying a 6 pack for ten bucks. My Fralin P/J set is like buying a keg for twenty.
Your window is plain glass, mine is stained glass.

Truly the lazy person’s pickup of choice: Do nothing, sounds great; do something, sounds great; bounce your baby off the neck for a nice slap effect–sounds great! Set everything flat (except volume)–perfect. No matter what you do, there is always a familiar tone waiting there. That familiarity makes “dialing in” a tone so easy. Fact of the matter, you don’t have to dial squat: Do nothing, sounds great.

Many times I’ll come across a tone so sweet I want to bottle it and sell it… except for maybe little too much mid range at the end or whatever. The slightest turn of the tone knob and that sound is gone, but the sweet tone is still there. I’ve even gone so far as to jokingly whack the tone knob to see if just jarring it–not even turning it!–would be enough to do the job. Crazy!

FYI: Swamp ash, maple and rosewood. Same as all ya’ll

    PJ set in Fender Mustang:

I upgraded a Fender Mustang bass so I’d have a fun, short-scale instrument that could be played out for real if need be.

The Fralin PJ set is exactly what I hoped for. The P pickup is deep and powerful, the J cuts well in a pleasant way and doesn’t hum. The pair balances well and delivers warm, vintage flavor usable in modern professional settings. Top notch work as usual; thank you!

Gourmet tone! The P/J pickup combo has an incredibly broad and versatile tonal palette. High output yet very sensitive and nuanced. Full tonal spectrum from vintage to modern. I’ve been able to dial in the right tone no matter what style of music. I’m satisfied far beyond my expectations!

Great individually and even better together! The P & J pickups each deliver a sound that is even better than I expected, and used together, they balance perfectly.

Today I had my first set of Lindy Fralin pickups – the P-J set – installed by my Pro-Tech. Previously my Fender Japan Exclusive Aerodyne sounded lifeless – but these PU’s sound incredibly alive, full, deep – you would swear they are active!!! A dynamic boost in sound quality & tone across both the Precision Pickups & the Jazz pickup w/no noise – just like they advertise! After only playing an hour I’d have to say these pickups are worth every penny – I’m a believer – try these and you will be too! Thank you Lindy! Tim – February 17, 2018

Just had these (with stock wind) installed on my Fender CS Precision. Coupled with a set of Thomastik-Infeld JF344 flatwounds, the sound is just thunderous.

These PUs are simply every bit as good as they claim, highly recommended if you’re going for that no-nonsense old-school thump.

I recently put the P&J pick-ups on a custom Warmoth Precision Bass I just built. These pickups have a tremendous amount of quality versatility, between the split coil Jazz bridge pick up and their classic P bass set you can a variety of great bass tones. The upper register notes are smooth, not so harsh. The P bass tones are sweet!

Stop. Listen. Think. These pickups are the best that’s ever been! I’ve been though two sets of electronics for my Fender Anodyne bass and Franlin pickups are the best. Total tone control. Highs, lows, it doesn’t matter. It’s all there. Within 20 seconds you can dial in the tone you want. Unbelievable! It’s Alive!!!

I scouted Fralin pickups via Youtube demos. I compared many brands as well as standard bass pickups. I felt Fralins had a distinct darkness and warmth while remaining clear-sounding throughout the entire range of the fret board. I decided to pull the trigger on the the P-J combo to replace my standard Fender pickups and what a great decision it was! They are well balanced across all strings, and the over-wound J pickup balances volume with the P pickup much better than the standard set of pickups. The pickups have the darkness, warmth, and clarity I observed in the videos. If you are looking for a very bright sound, these may not be the right direction for you. Personally, I am so excited to have these pickups be part of “my” sound. Thank you, Fralin!
