Hum-Cancelling P-90 With Alnico Rods
Jazzmaster Tone, P-90 Looks, No Hum
- Hum-Cancelling
- Clean & Articulate
- Unique Appearance
- Vintage Output
The Alnico Rod Hum Cancelling P-90 offers a brighter, more “Fender-like” sound compared to a traditional P-90. It features increased top-end sparkle, a cleaner tone with enhanced articulation, and retains a loud and beefy midrange, all while eliminating hum. The key to this pickup’s exceptional sound lies in the Alnico 5 Magnets used instead of traditional steel pole pieces, providing that clear, bell-like Fender tone you know and love.

Features
The Hum-Cancelling P-90 with Alnico Rods is the perfect pickup for a cleaner, more articulate P-90 pickup. It has an airiness and sparkle not found with adjustable pole pieces. It’s also great for those looking to balance a dark guitar. You’ll find that this pickup stays clean while still having a fat, beefy midrange and thickness commonly found with P-90 pickups.
While we refer to this pickup as a P-90, it’s not a traditional P-90. Traditional P-90s are known for their snarly midrange and stiffer top end. The Hum-Cancelling P-90 with Alnico Rods pickup, on the other hand, offers a softer, cleaner sound with the familiar ‘sparkle’. This pickup is available in all our Soapbar and Dogear versions, offering a unique alternative to traditional P-90s.
Features:
- Alnico Rods for a Fender-type sparkle
- Soapbar / Dogear construction
- Hum-free design for completely noiseless operation
- Raised Beveled D String for optimal string balance
- 49.5mm Standard Spacing, with an option for 52mm Bridges (Black & Cream Soapbar only)
- Wound with USA-Made 42 Gauge SPN Wire
- Backed by our 10 Year Warranty against manufacturing defects
- Wax Potted to prevent microphonics and corrosion
- 30-day Risk-Free exchange policy
How It's Made:
Sound & Video
The Alnico Noiseless P-90 will sound like a regular P-90, but with a familiar Fender sparkle on the top-end. Clean and articulate when playing without distortion. You’ll find that the nuances of your playing will come out as this pickup “breathes” more than it’s compressed P-90 counterpart. With distortion, you’ll find a smooth, late breakup with a familiar Fender Strat-type tone. Expect a clear pick attack and a warmer midrange.
This midrange of this pickup is pronounced as well. You’ll find that the Alnico Noiseless P-90 will still sound fat and beefy!

Here's how we wind and magnetize our pickups:
If you're buying a set from us, all pickups will work together seamlessly. If you're buying a single pickup, all you need to worry about is Coil Direction.
To ensure your pickup will work, make sure you select multiple leads (2-Conductor, 3-Conductor, or 4-Conductor if available), or the 3-Wire modification so you can reverse the coil direction, if need be.
Tools
Dogear Shim Height Calculator
Calculate what shims you need!
- Select your cover height. Most cover heights are either 1/4" (Short Dogear) or 7/16" (Standard Dogear).
- Depress the Low E string at the highest fret
- With the Low E depressed, measure from the bottom of your pickup to the bottom of the string
- Input that measurement into the "String Height" box, and calculate!
Note: Shims are stackable and sandable. It's good practice to get more shim than you need, then sand it down to meet your measurement.

Scipio Guitars
“In 1989 Lindy Fralin disassembled his winding machine in order to be able to resurrect the arcane 7 inch long 1940 Gibson ES300 pickup for me, which was the first repair I ever had to tackle at the Mandolin Brothers shop. How can you not like somebody that does that for you? I’ve successfully used his Telecaster and Stratocaster pickups in several of the guitars I made over the years and his Big Single pickups have found a place in some of my most appreciated projects. I have a Big Single in my own main stage guitar, where it compliments a 1950’s single coil pickup perfectly.” – Flip Scipio

To find results towards something new, while keeping what tradtionally has been proven best. We feel that Lindy Fralin Pickups and the people behind it are like-minded, and we love both the quality and the mindset of yearning for the best possible sounds in the tradition of guitar music.”- Frank & Kora of Deimel Guitarworks

“Redeemed guitars are hand-built one at a time in Raleigh NC. Our Eldorado model uses Fralin P90s with AlNiCo rods, and they sound killer. All our models are original designs drawn by hand (yes, with a pencil), but intended to be familiar. I’m loving Fralin P90s and I’d like to broaden my usage on more of my models.” – Jed Brodie

Fantastic pickup. Capture a Jazz Master sound with no hum. I put one in the neck of my Novo and a noiseless P90 in the bridge. They replaced the stock Fralins, mostly to get rid of hum and to get a clearer sound from the neck pickup.
The P90AR is bright and almost Strat-like, but thicker and is just what I was looking for.
Just installed a set of Lindy's P90s dog ear hum canceling pickups with Alnico rods in my 2022 MIC Epiphone Casino. I have customized a couple of my strats with Seymour Duncan pups over the years and probably would have purchased SD Antiquity p90s had they been noiseless and available in chrome cover. So glad they didn't!!! After extensive research to find exactly what I was looking for, I ordered from Lindy and am blown away by the transformation to an inexpensive import guitar.
The sound and response is stellar and my Casino in now silent ( previous hum was killing me). I'm sold on Fralin pickups and will be using them on future builds and swap outs. Don't hesitate to upgrade your guitars with Fralins. Thanks Lindy!!!!
First off, wow! What a great pickup! If you're looking for something between a P90 and JM style pickup, look no further. I wasn't happy with the Seymour Duncan SP90's which were too dark for my taste.
I really prefer JM style pickups and true single coils overall, and was having trouble finding the right fit. I took a chance on these and they definitely hold up. I also have a set of the standard Fralin P90's in a different guitar. I have to say they are both just absolutely excellent.
Of course the standard P90's have their own charm. They are a little grittier and have more have that P90 woof to them. These are much closer in sound to a Fender style single coil with added bonus of being hum-cancelling. I really don't know how they do it, but I have yet to be disappointed with a Fralin pickup.

Really inspiring tone that exceeded high expectations!
I put the Hum-Cancelling P-90 Alnico Rods neck pickup (AR P-90) in a PJD Guitars St. John about 4 months ago.The guitar has a 25.5 inch scale length, chambered ash body with a maple neck and fretboard. Volume and tone pots are 500k for both. I play through analog amp and cab sims with headphones (no gigs in the last year and baby in the house). The guitar previously had a very nice, slightly underwound P-90 in the neck. What I was trying to achieve was a hum-free tone with more highs and less congestion in the mids (to my ear). The AR P-90 achieved this goal and helps give me a great sounding, inspiring sound.
My favorite part of the pickup is that it can achieve the bell-like round chimey tone that Fender-style neck pickups can get on good days. It sounded more in the ballpark of a Strat-style neck pickup than any other that I’ve heard but with a stronger mid range. With the tone rolled down a little the pickup can still get really good traditional P-90 sounds.
The ordering process was very smooth and the pickups arrived from the USA to where I live in Japan on time. I very much appreciated the supplementary material sent by e-mail. A great pickup and great experience with this company.

These are absolutely fantastic!
I got mine slightly underwound so I’m not sure what they’d be like otherwise but they are as bright as any JM single coil I’ve used with no mains hum.
I’m using a pair of them in a custom aluminium-necked guitar and they provide all the clang I wanted and more with a 1M pot.
They just sound clear, articulate and brilliant in all positions. Very impressive! -

I installed a pair of Fralin Hum-Cancelling P-90s With Alnico Rods in a Les Paul Special and I’m very happy with the result. Great tones and no more hum, even when using overdriven amp settings. Thanks Lindy!

I paired the Hum-Cancelling P-90 With Alnico Rods in the neck with the Hum-Cancelling P90 in the bridge in my Gibson Les Paul Special. This guitar is now by far the most versatile guitar I own. The Hum-Cancelling P-90 With Alnico Rods neck pickup is everything I’ve ever wanted a neck pickup to be – so incredibly clear and articulate. This Les Paul Special may have become my #1 before my Les Paul Standard. I guess I need to order a pair of Fralin Pure P.A.F.’s to improve that guitar.

Why did I put this off for so long?? compared to the stock p90s that came with my 90s Les Paul Jr double cut, these are much more dynamic and pleasant with overdrive.
I used to have to turn my gain way down to get a semi-decent sound, now I can get good sounds on various settings. It’s opened up a lot of possibilities. Thank you!

Greg WoodRated 5 out of 5
I installed the P-90 with Alnico Rods in the neck position of a Telecaster. Simply the best sounding pickup I have ever used. The tonal balance is perfect meaning not too much bass, no brittle highs and awesome mids.
IMO, this is not a “punchy” P90 however this pickup can bring some mid growl to your amp in a good way. This surprised me when I was playing totally clean through a Fender Deluxe Reverb and then a borrowed Princeton fitted with a 12″ speaker. In my ears, I have never heard my Marshall sound this good until I installed this pickup. From jazz to the Allman Brothers this pickup can go the distance whether bedroom quiet or out in the barn loud, clean, crunch or with gain.
For the bridge, I ordered the Split Pole P90 which is an amazing pickup and pairs wonderfully with the P-90 with Alnico Rods in the neck position. I could write a book on how well these (2) pickups work together.
As expected, it did take take adjusting the height of each pickup to find the sweet spot however once you get that clean tone set the magic begins. Another discovery made is how well the pickups respond to changing to Vol and Tone controls.
I over thought and agonized buying these pickups for over a year before ordering them. I would encourage you not to make my mistake.

Hey there. I just wanted to say that i recently swapped out a set of Kinman Thickmasters with some of your noiseless P90 JM pickups and, gosh, it’s a night and day difference. I really love them. Thanks so much for all you do.

Austin LloydRated 5 out of 5
I ordered a set of these to put in a Les Paul Special double cutaway that I have had trouble getting a sound I was satisfied with for years. All I can say is wow, Fralin will probably be my go-to pickup manufacturer from now on. Not only are these dead-silent (as advertised), but they really brought my guitar back to life. While these definitely more top-end and clarity than a traditional P-90, they still retain the body and bite that I love from P-90s. I really couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to try some other Fralin pickups in my other guitars going forward.

I replaced the pickups on my Epiphone Casino Elitist and not only have my noise/hum issues disappeared, the quality of tone has improved substantially. The guitar sounds more…. “alive”? My luthier was very impressed with the tone improvement too.

This Pickup was a great match for my melodic jazz finger style taste… It has much more presence and expression than the neck p-90 in the ES-330 Gibson. It also has a little more jazz darkness if you back off the tone a little.

Installed these pick ups after trying another major competitor’s P90s in my baritone guitar. I was after the twangy non-muddy tone. Fralin Pickups recommended them. Instantly upon playing them I knew that’s the sound I was looking for. The clarity, overtones, and harmonics are amazing. Thanks Lindy, another great pickup.

Third guitar with this pickup! This is a stock wound bridge soap bar in a Gibson JR guitar.
Clean tones are just beautiful and full. Drive tones are articulate and Id say closer to a Fender Jazzmaster breakup sound. Pots matter big time with this pickup. I like 300k gibson volume pots and a 500k tone pot. .002 ceramic cap. And I like the 50s wiring. Normally on stock p90 i dig 500k all around 60s wiring. But you may like 500k or 250k or maybe even a 1 meg. Lindy products are great and the customer service is amazing! Also his hum cancelling p90 is great! -

Noiseless P-90s sounds fantastic. Almost too good, as I now think I need Fralins in other guitars I own.

Dominic MusumeciRated 5 out of 5
When I first installed these, I wasn’t sure I liked them. I raised them and got the output up and they really came to life. They still are lower output than a true P-90. They are not going to give you the P90 “woof” because they are designed to be more of a Jazzmaster tone. They are very clear and articulate and sound amazing when gained up a little….or a lot. They clean up great and are definitely quiet. I’m now converted. Just keep in mind, they are a lot different than a true P-90.

Got a set of Hum-Cancelling P90 With Alnico Rods and they are absolutely amazing. I can’t put the guitar down. I’ve had them for 3 months now and have played a handful of gigs with them. They are everything I was looking for and more. I used avoid the bridge pickup in the old set and now with the new one it’s got the bite and clarity I was looking for. Neck pickup is just awesome and the middle position has a ton of character. Great!!! Highly Recommend!!!
