Sound
The Split Jazz Bass sounds like a single-coil Jazz Bass pickup, only thicker and darker. As soon as you plug in, you’ll notice the hum-free tone. Designed with a pronounced midrange, expect a thicker, beefier tone. You’ll find these pickups speak what you tell them to – soft and quiet, or digging in. Our Split Jazz Bass Pickups, provide authentic Jazz Bass tone with better articulation. We hand-wind these pickups using our unique formula to give them exceptional balance and tone. We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:
- For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and fewer highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

It really depends on the shop capacity at the moment, and the size of your order. Feel free to give us a call for an accurate lead time. We always try to underpromise and overdeliver.

What pickup height do you recommend setting your Split Jazzs to?
Our recommended Pickup Height is 1/8" (3.175mm) on the Bass Side and 1/16"( 1.5875mm) on the Treble Side. Measure by holding the corresponding side down at its highest fret and measure from the bottom of the string to the top of the pole piece.

The split jazz coils 10% overwound are exceptional and the best sounding jazz pickups I’ve ever played. My Fender American Original is a completely new vintage like instrument. They sound great with rounds and flats alike, and record exceptionally well with tapewounds. This upgrade from stock pickups is transformative, I can’t recommend them enough.

Bought the set for a amdlx active jazz bass. Bought the guitar with issues (including a broken neck p/u and bland bridge p/u). Sat on installing these because I lost interest in the guitar. Spent the day rewiring, changed pickups, and set up. Really happy I did this. It sounds incredible, the bridge is slightly overwound, has this great punchy sound, and is my favorite of the set. These pickups changed my impression on my jazz bass.

Your pickups are just plain nuts. I’ve never in all my years….. Ever…. Heard better pickups on any bass guitar. I’ll side-by-side mirror image jazz basses, but with YOUR pickups, and it’s beyond night and day. I googled ” what’s the best bass pickups money can buy” before I bought them. Your name came up. I bought them. And the rest is history. Thank you. I’m dead ass serious. These have got to be the most musically responsive pickups I’ve ever worked with. Humbled.

I had the split coil jazz pickup set on my Fender American Professional for no more than one hour…
They produce a really nice and even tone … But as soon as you touch the magnets… they will produce a Buzz …
So if you dont have my bad habit of touching the magnets while playing, you will be ok …
Im returning them … And i hope this gets improved soon… i dont think is too hard to achieve that..
Beacuse at $300, I will spect no buzz when the magnets get touched…
Bartolini B-Axis for example has exposed poles and they dont buzz at all… -

I had no idea my Mexican ash Jazz had this many cool tones in it! ! I work in a melodrama theatre and need to play EVERY style of music in a show, as well as play flashy solos sometimes, and now my bass can do it all, and the dimmer noise is gone. It feels like a brand new instrument and I’m just beginning to discover the tonal possibilities. Great job, Lindy! I got the +5 overwind and the bass went from having an overly-scooped, empty sound to having significant midrange growl.

Wow, what an improvement over the stock pickups in my Fender Jazz (2016 MIM). I ordered these with the 5% overwound option in both neck and bridge, and asked Fralin if this was a good choice for my style of old-school soul and reggae. Pleased to say I got a response that confirmed my understanding of this choice. Great service there. The output is fantastic, hotter than stock but not overdriven. And, of course, no hum. Quality product!

Im in love.. Bridge and neck split jazz overwound 5% and combined with a prewired vintage jazz control plate on a ’09 American Standard J. Tuned ADGC.. Im in awe of the character and subtlety these are capable of… precisely what Ive been looking for!

Replaced the factory N3 pickups with these split coil Jazz pickups with 5% over wound to both neck and bridge on my 2012 4 string American Jazz Deluxe. I was a little concerned about the sound of the split coil vs single coil Fralin (BTW, I’ve installed Fralin single coils on my Mex Jazz fretless and absolutely love the sound), but after hearing these split coils I knew I made the right decision. Currently strung with flats, this bass now has the tone that I was looking for when I purchased it. Smooth warm bottom, with mid’s that cut through the mix. Even with flats, I can get that “growl” we all like by digging in on the strings a little more. I lean more toward the neck P’up, but the bridge has that famous “burp” sound I looked for that I wasn’t getting with the N3 stocks. Also, I run it in passive mode and do not use the onboard preamp to tailor the tone. Not needed with these Fralin’s. When the guitar player leans over and says, “man that bass is smooth as butter”, you’ve done something right. Great job guys. Highly recommend!

Added the split coils to my Fender Paranormal Jazz Bass. A cheap Bass with a terrible hum problem.
With the new pick ups, no hum plus the sound of a much more expensive Bass (also had the pots upgraded at my luthier).Very happy with this upgrade.

I have had these installed in my older Squier bass. They sound just fine. Much more defined than the old pickups and with a character that I like on both the neck and bridge. Before ordering I asked if I needed to overwind or underwind anything for my style of guitar-based singer-songwriter roots/pop/folk rock. Recording tone is what I am most concerned with rather live playing tone which I dial in with the amp anyway. I was advised that standard set would be right for me. And so far, so excellent! I must add that Fralin has, by far, the best website of any that I ever have used to buy stuff online, for any product.

I think I talked with Luke a few times. He was very helpful. How do you buy something without hearing it, especially something as personal as “your sound?” Again, Luke sold me just by our conversation. The 5% overwind split jazz are phenomenal!! Such rich tone!! And the variables on mixing the pickups are awesome. Love these pickups!! It can get dirty on the E and A strings if you dig in…Love them! Keep up the great work!!

These pickups have great clarity and punch. I ordered the stock winding but these pickups do not sound like any stock pickups I’ve ever had. No more muddy sound and absolutely no hum.
No modifications needed to install in a ’71 J bass. Worth the price. -
These are fantastic pickups, the clarity of articulation of the notes and tonal characteristics are amazing.
My only wish is they offered cream knobs to match their cream colored pickup covers, as they really do not match anything availble. Had to dye a set via multiple tries on my own -
These are simply the finest pickups, with the most character I’ve ever used.
I only have the one, so it’s gotta be right…and it is.
