Sound
The Split Jazz Bass sounds like a single-coil Jazz Bass pickup, only thicker and darker. As soon as you plug in, you’ll notice the hum-free tone. Designed with a pronounced midrange, expect a thicker, beefier tone. You’ll find these pickups speak what you tell them to – soft and quiet, or digging in. Our Split Jazz Bass Pickups, provide authentic Jazz Bass tone with better articulation. We hand-wind these pickups using our unique formula to give them exceptional balance and tone. We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:
- For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and fewer highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

The Holy Grail of Thump
I ordered the Split Jazz +5% and paired them with a John East Retro Deluxe Preamp wired for 18V. I installed in my 2020 Fender American Ultra Jazz (Texas Tea) and absolutely could not be happier. I have 15 basses and this has caused me to lose complete interest in 14 of them. I am currently playing through a Mesa TT800 into an eminence 1×15 cabinet and it sounds amazing. Cannot thank Lindy and team enough for showing me what was possible and presenting me with the punch, depth and clear articulation that I have been searching for the past 36 years. I will be continuing to add Lindy pickups to my other instruments. If you are on the fence, do not hesitate, these are the real deal…..

These Pickups are Great
This was my first build from scratch. I wasn’t searching for a specific tone, but wanted the bass to have its own personality. I paired the Fralin Split Jazz pickups, standard wind, with the Audere Z-mode preamp and I am quite pleased with the voices I’m able to get with this set-up. I could’ve gotten away with the +5% wind on the bridge, but the preamp gives me the adjustment I need to get the tones I want. I did a lot of research into this project before I made the final decisions on the combination. I’m quite pleased with the final result, and I’m having a great time working through all the sound combinations that are available to me now. Bass tone is a personal preference, but I’m convinced the Fralin pickups will go long way toward getting you where you want to go, regardless of the final electronic set-up. Completely satisfied with this purchase!

Amazing pickups. I’m in love with them, such a nice mid-range growls with buttery and savory sounding low end. I also run a lot of drive and distortion and now I have zero use for my noise gate now since the bass is very silent in between notes. Very pleased with this product!

Just installed this set of Split Jazz pickups in a USA Geddy Lee. I’m blown away by the tone on these. I went with 5% overwind on the neck, and have them wired to the Fralin Jazz Bass control plate. Tone is throaty, punchy, breathes, excellent harmonic overtones and the relationship between the neck and bridge pickups in various blend combinations is stellar. The orginal pickups in the bass were excellent, but I had read a lot about the Fralin’s, and listened to them both in actual basses and online. I kept the original jazz plate and pickups just to be able to restore the bass to stock if I desire too, but I sure don’t see that happening at this point.
Amazing pickups! Thanks.

I put the Fralin split jazz bass pickups on my new Fender American Professional Series Jazz Bass (fretless), which I have set up with D’Addario tape-wound strings. This combination gives me a sound kind of close to a traditional upright bass, at least, that’s what I have been told. The stock Fender pickups were only usable if both pickups were aimed at the same volume level, a ridiculous situation. With the Fralin spit pickups, I can back off the neck a little bit and get a hum-free piercing new sound for solos or feature parts. Most of the time I will still be using both neck and bridge pickups at full on, but at least I have the option of new sounds now. Interestingly, backing off the bridge pickup makes almost no difference to the sound, but a quarter turn off the neck makes a huge difference. It actually took a little while to get used to the new sound of the Fralin pickups, because it is significantly different than the original Fender pickups, but at this point, I’m sold.

If possible I would give 6 stars! These pickups are so wonderful. Recording through them is an experience!
I have install them on a custom made jazz bass from a notable Italian luthier and the literally shine. Soloing pickups is a breeze and they offer plenty of flexibility, while maintaining all the vintage mojo typical of old Fender jazz.
Highly highly recommended!!

Fantastic Pickup!
Dropped a set of these into an MIM Fender J-Bass and it immediately sent it over the top!! -
Great Sounding Pups
This is my second set of pickups. I installed this +5 set in my Fender Professional II Jazz Bass. Very articulate, even response across all the strings. I am very pleased with Lindy’s pickups as I have them in my 99 Fender Hot Rod P-Bass as well. Trust me when I say, you wont be disappointed with Lindy’s pickups. -
I always thought I just didn’t like jazz bass bridge pickups, but the +5% overwound Split Jazz completely changed my mind. It balances perfectly with the stock Fralin P-bass pickup, and has completely transformed the sound of my active-to-passive converted Mexican Fender Deluxe Precision Bass Special. I love the combined pickup sound, and the solo bridge tone is fantastic and articulate too. After I initially placed my order, Lindy called me to double-check my order and offer some advice on the wind — super helpful customer service. Thank you!

Split Jazz set 5% neck 10% bridge
I have a raised center J bass set of standard wound pickups in one of my 1970 Jazz Basses and I love them. Now I’m going to be doing a 5% Neck 10% Bridge setup on the other 1970 Jazz Bass next with this Split Jazz Bass without the raised centers.

Inspiring tones
My head had been focused on some heavy life events. Hadn’t played much recently. I’d forgotten that I was waiting for my bass to get finished. Got the call today! My MIM Squier Jazz sounds like the most beautiful thing! I spent bout 3 hours turning the tone knob, finding gorgeous tones all over! I like pedals and I was having a blast just playing clean! Another plus, was that I couldn’t tell if the bass was off or on, when I knew that mug was on. This bass is now worthy of whatever the next level is. These pickups got it there.

Top of the Top
Really cool pickups! Perfect with the Mike Pope Flexcore active preamp/eq. The low end (I mean an incredible fat bottom) and the smooth highs are just what I was searching for a long time for my Jazz Bass Deluxe. Bravo!

None better!
I have the plus 5% set in my ‘74 Precision and the split Jazz set (stock neck/plus 5% bridge) in my new J build. Both instruments sound amazing. Give Fralins a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Split Jazz Wonderland
I used a 500K linear master volume and rotary switch for the standard three selections as well as series (P-Bass). A 500K audio taper was used for tone (0.022 orange drop). These things soar. Tighter low end, better mid definition and with the 500K pots they are huge in the mix without stepping on other instruments. The bonus is the noise-free background … a gorilla standing on black velvet.

Bass sounds better than ever
I didn’t really know how well these pickups would do, but man, the hype is real. My jazz bass sounds amazing with the 5% overwound; thick, punchy, and creamy tone and the slightly darker sound matches well to the typically bright and middy character of the bass. Worth every penny!

Outstanding Pickups
Completely changed the sound of my jazz bass. More output and better tone. Big thanks to the shop for answering my questions and guiding me to the correct options.

Klang, klang!
That sweet, punchy, low-mid kick that sounds a bit like ‘klang’ in the attack phase, but still keeps the warmth and velvety depth of a jazz bass during the release. How amazing. You guys have outdone yourselves with this pickup. With extra-strength, and completely silent, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you very much.

cannot tell you I how much I dig these lindy fralin split jazzs in my larry graham model moon bass – only the bass itself can tell you cuz crimony, what a happening trip it is grooving w/these babies. I also put in a hipshot (they too make great stuff) kickass 4 bridge which has got side-to-side adjust w/the saddles and could get all my strings right between the lindy pole pieces, this baby tracks most righteous. I’m foaming… it’s just so good feeling for me… use mostly front pickup and little off the tone, really personal but big time aiding and abetting for rhythm section commit. great work, mr lindy, truly I thank you.
on bass, watt
