Sound

There are a few ways to cancel out the hum in a pickup. Some manufacturers feature a “stacked” coil design, which we believe leads to a lifeless and dull tone that lacks character. Lindy’s Hum Cancelling P90 features a Side-by-side coil design that is not stacked and attains a more accurate P90 tone that actually sounds like a P90.

Expect a vintage-voiced P90 tone, with a slightly thicker midrange and rounder highs. This pickup will undoubtedly push your amp hard and provide that snarly midrange and top-end “bark” we have come to expect from a P90. Suitable for many music styles, this pickup can scream and clean up nicely for jazz or blues.

Going even further, you can customize your tone by selecting Overwound and Underwound options. By overwinding a pickup, the tone gets thicker, darker, and dirtier. By underwinding a pickup, the pickup gets clearer and more articulate.

Speaking of versatility, are you looking for a jazzier tone? We can use Alnico 6 Magnets to taper the highs even more and offer you a softer sound. Are you searching for a cleaner and more Fender sparkle? Check out our Alnico Rod Version that features Alnico Rods for a Fender-type sparkle.

Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control.

Listen to our friend Mike Hermans play our Hum Cancelling P90, only in a soapbar format.

Hum-Cancelling P90s consists of 100% USA-Made parts, including a precision injection mold, USA-Made Steel Screws, and Neodymium magnets. We use aggressive USA-Made Neodymium magnets to make this model scream. Each bobbin is carefully inspected and cleaned before winding.

We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time, using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique, which gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to prevent microphonics and preserve the pickup for years to come.

Lead Color Codes

See below for our Lead color codes. For help with matching to other manufacturers, check out this resource here.

Gibson Braided Lead:

2-Conductor With Shield
Gibson Braided Lead - Use on Gibson-Style Instruments only, where each pickup has it's own respective volume and tone pot. Do not select this lead on Fender-style instruments, unless the instrument is wired like a Gibson, like a Telecaster Deluxe. This lead is non-reversible. You cannot split the humbucker with this lead.

2-Conductor Lead:

2-Conductor With Shield
Two-Conductor Lead - Select this lead if wiring to a Blade Switch or buying a single pickup. 2-Conductor allows you to reverse the phase of the pickup.

    What output do I choose?
  1. Q What output do I choose?
A Our most popular set is the Stock Neck & Bridge. Going with a +5% output from Stock will thicken and darken the tone. Going with a -5% will clean up and reduce the midrange, making it sound more articulate and clear.
  2. What lead do I choose?
  3. Q What lead do I choose?
A This depends on your guitar and a few other things. Gibson Lead: Go with this if installing a set into a Gibson-style instrument, where each pickup has its respective volume pot. 2-Conductor: Go with this lead if buying a Single, or installing into a Fender-style instrument.
  4. What’s the tonal difference between this and your Stock P90?
  5. Q What’s the tonal difference between this and your Stock P90?
A The Hum Cancelling P90 is slightly louder, darker, and thicker. It’s quicker to break up, and has no hum!
  6. I’m looking to add a set of noiseless p90s in my Les paul deluxe, it doesn’t seem to give me the string spacing option for what is recommended for Gibson. Is this pickup not available in that spacing? Thanks!

A For most Gibsons, 50mm (our standard string spacing) works just fine. You do not need F (Fender) Spacing, and if your guitar requires 49.2mm, as some Gibsons do, 50mm works perfectly for this application.
  8. I purchased a Gretsch 5627 p90 model from guitar center. It has the soap bar style cream p90 pickups. The stock pickup does hum quite a bit. I have a noise gate but it sucks up tone. Which specs would you recommend to replace these?

A I would personally go with the +5% output to match up with a 9K P90. Stock Output might cut it as well, as Hum Cancelling P90s tend to be a little more midrange-heavy than their single-coil counterparts. That said, if you mainly play clean, go with the Stock Outputs. If you mainly play dirty or overdriven, go with the +5%.

  14. I can’t find the dimensions of your noise-canceling p90. A The Split Steel Pole Tele Bridge would be a touch cleaner and brighter than the Hum Cancelling P90. I would recommend going with the -5% Hum Cancelling P90 Neck and a Stock Split Steel Pole Tele Bridge for a compensated tone.

  1. Philippe Durel

I’ve installed a set of Lindy Fralin Hum Cancelling P90 on my Gibson Les Paul P90.
The Bridge PU is fantastic, but I find the Neck PU very very dark.
The Neck PU would be a great Jazz PU, all mellow and soft, but as is, it doesn’t bring the nice round tone punchy tone of the standard Gibson “P90 SR 860-13005-L” pickup that was originally on the guitar.
I consider buying another Bridge PU in 50mm pole spacing to install as a Neck PU to compensate that problem, and anyways, I always have a tone pot and a volume put to “tame” and adjust a Neck PU if it’s a bit too bright and loud, but there is no way to do anything when the PU is just too dark.
Unfortunately there is no distributor in Europe for single Hum Cancelling P-90 pickups, and with the shipment and the import taxes, that will bump up the price to nearly 250$ which make my pickup set a crazy expensive upgrade for my Les Paul P90.
I think that this set should be redesigned for a more homogenous balanced in tone and output, anyways it’s the pickup placement (neck or bridge) which will determine the biggest part of the tone.

I put these in my Gretsch 5627T. Tons of reviews. Didn’t see any Gretsch replacements reviews so… My stock Gretsch P90s sounded really good. I almost didn’t wanna replace them. I’m Ssssoooo glad I did. Soooo amazing!!!!! Unreal amazing!!! Do it!!!!!! I play classic rock, punk, alternative, jazz….
( I ordered these through my local music store when they mentioned they were a Fralin dealer ).

    Hum-Cancelling P90
What a nice surprise. I play a lot of jazz and usually use guitars with humbuckers. But, when an F-hole guitar was gifted to me with one P-90, my first thought was to replace it with a humbucker. But, It was recommended to me by the guy who does all the work on my guitars to put a hum-canceling P-90 on it. This would be consistent the style of the guitar. I did some research and found this hum-canceling P-90 made by Fralin and the reviews all looked good. I took a chance and I am totally delighted. It has a very sweet sound, perfect for jazz, yet I can get down and dirty with it when I need to without any extra effects. The best way I can describe it is that it is like a hybrid between a P-90 and a humbucker. If you play jazz you should try this pick up!

Awesome pick-ups. I just replaced my Les Paul pick-ups with the hum-cancelling P90’s & it’s like night & day compared to the old ones. Lindy’s pick-ups are so quiet & the tone to my ears is exquisite. I also noticed more character in the 3 different pick-up combinations. Lindy also helped me out on the phone a few times when I wasn’t clear on something. Great product & excellent service.
