Attack: Stiff & Percussive
As we’re sure you’re aware, a known challenge with P90 pickups is the hum. Rest assured: we’ve solved that problem and found a unique, versatile sonic footprint where the P-92 fits perfectly.
The P-92 features a cleaner and more articulate overall tone. It’s more “polite” than our Hum Cancelling P90s, and much clearer-sounding than our Pure P.A.F. That said, the P-92 offers you a thick, warm midrange accompanied by a stiffer and rounder treble – perfect for many music styles.
The P-92 is quick to break up, but you’ll find that it’s still clearer, like traditional Vintage P90s. Built with alnico V magnets, we use 42-gauge or 43 gauge wire depending on the strength you need.
When playing clean, you’ll find that this pickup has a thicker, bold tone with a stiff high end. With distortion, you’ll find that the grind is dirtier than our Big Single, but not as much as a typical Humbucker.
Players who want a sparkly-top end should look at our Twangmasters, as our P-92’s sound more like a Gibson.

It really depends on the shop capacity at the moment, and the size of your order. Feel free to give us a call for an accurate lead time. We always try to underpromise and overdeliver.

What pickup height do you recommend setting your P-92s to?
Our recommended Pickup Height is 1/8" (3.175mm) on the Bass Side and 1/16"( 1.5875mm) on the Treble Side. Measure by holding the corresponding side down at its highest fret and measure from the bottom of the string to the top of the pole piece.
I’ve been on the pickup merry-go-round for years. A couple months back I called Lindy and told him that I loved the round, chime-like sound of my Lollar Charlie Christian single coil, but I couldn’t stand the noise and hum anymore. At first I was thinking of getting the Big Single, but Lindy suggested the P-92 to get the darker, thicker tone I was looking for. I purchased the overwound version and, man, I’m glad I did. This is hands-down my favorite pickup ever. The notes are fat, juicy steaks for my ears. The P-92 magically combines clarity of tone with a sticky ‘bite’ in the attack that fascinates and inspires me. I can’t put my Tele down since putting this thing on. Thanks, Lindy! I’ll be a Fralin fan for life.

I’m sure these are my favorite pickups–just because I haven’t had the opportunity to try all of them. I’ve now put P-92’s in two Warmoth guitars (two in each) and one in the neck position of an Epi Les Paul. My take on the sound is that they are full and clear on a clean channel and with beautiful drive possibilities as you add gain. My last pair of P-92’s I ordered with the two leads (rather than one shielded conductor). This allowed me to wire them to an Oak Grigsby 4-way and added a very nice series connection to the mix. The two-conductor variant I also found easier to work with as opposed to using the shield for the second conductor. The two pickups they replaced (P-92s with shielded hots) went into my own guitar with a 3-way switch. Again, I really like the warm but a bit more single-coil sounding output of these. More full than typical single coils. I don’t have much experience with true P-90s but for the ‘apparent’ difference in sound, I would gladly give up the noise. My third Warmoth has a set of split rail pickups which are very good too, but I think I prefer the sound of these. If there’s a fourth, it will have some combination of steel-pole or split-steel pole pickups. Compared to DiMarzios (Steve Morse bridge pickup, Area ’61 and Area ’67), the Morse bridge has great high output but to me sounds a bit thick or dull; I really liked the Area pickups, but they don’t have the full ringing sound that these have–a bit closer to the sound of a lower power humbucker to my ears.
These pickups are awesome! To my ears the P92 sits somewhere between Jazzmasters and P90s. Very clear but they still have lots of personality and no noise.
Really like this pickup. The more I play it the more I like it. I chose the 5% Underwind Neck with the stock Bridge. I like playing the lighter music.

P92’s for a ’99 Epiphone Sheratan II
I’ve put the `Powered by Fralin Pickups’ decal on my 1999 Epiphone Sheraton II case, having held off until deciding I was happy with the P92 standard replacement set I ordered. After doing a temporary, solder-less install, the P92’s immediately sounded better than the original humbuckers, even with the stock Epiphone wiring. Once proper pickup height was achieved, they came to life even more. I’ve played acoustic guitars for 60 years, recently switching to playing electric. Good tone on acoustic guitars is easy – find one that sounds good, buy it and play it. I’ve attempted `going’ electric’ for some time, but found it difficult to `dial in ‘ good tone on equipment previously owned. Now with somewhat better equipment, I generally prefer single coils, even more so given the Sheraton II’s original dark and lifeless humbuckers. It was rarely played it, even though it frets wonderfully. The decision to change to P92’s came after researching and listening to various options, including sound clips on Fralin’s website. A P90 sound seemed a good compromise between single coil and humbucker. Fralin’s customer service was excellent and especially helpful. Like others have mentioned, I was even able to talk to Lindy Fralin at one point! The P92’s fit perfectly in the Epiphone’s humbucker mounts. With no P90 experience, I can’t say whether P92’s achieve `true’ P90 sound or not. They are, however, excellent pickups in their own right, combining humbucker sustain, warmth and full (but clearer) low end with a great deal of single coil `spank’, `sparkle’ and `growl’ I like. I’ve even explored playing the neck pickup on it’s own, something totally avoided with the original humbuckers. On any pickup setting, adjusting volume and tone knobs makes for an expansive palette of interesting sounds, and, they’re dead quiet. I play through a Fender Mustang II amp modeler. Without changing `amps’ and settings from those used for single coils, the P92’s sound good. Adjusting settings for the P92’s, they sound outstanding, good enough to hold off on changing the original Epiphone wiring at this point. The Sheratan II is now out of the closet and played regularly. Once picked up, it’s `inspiring’, as Fralin’s description says, and hard to put down. Fralin sent 3 emaiils after receiving the pickups. They cover soldering, grounding and height adjustment. While these may be automated, they are very helpful and a nice touch! Thank you!

Chime, Spank … and Girth
I put a P92 in the bridge position of a DC Long scale maple/mahogany guitar. This was a month ago so. It’s miraculous. Seriously. No big mid honk but enough mids for a snarly grind. Amazingly articulate, and high end spank sufficient to get tele-like tones without ear chisels with a 500k pot. Zero hum. can actually make chime in the bridge position. This would all seem like an oxymoron to those of you who try a lot of pickups, but it works.
