A Lindy Fralin Original Design! A humbucker in size and shape, but the tone is beefy and single single coil sounding. This pickup is perfect for guitarists looking for a thick and beefy P-90 type tone in their guitar. This P-92 is right in-between the tone of a single-coil and a P-90.

Fralin P-92 Electric Guitar Pickups are perfect for anyone who wants a P-90 type tone in their humbucker-routed guitar, with no hum. We use a Split Single-coil design to get hum-canceling P-90 Tones, in a Humbucker size. Our P-92 uses AlNiCo V magnets and sounds big, fat, and smooth. This pickup sounds clearer than our hum-canceling P-90 but dirtier than our Big Single. Fralin P-92 guitar pickups have a great blend of P-90 and single-coil tone with no hum, all the while offering nice breakup and an “in-your-face” sound.

  • Lindy Fralin Original Design
  • Clean P90 tone in a Humbucker Cover
  • Strong and bold – lots of midrange and snarl
  • USA-made Alnico 5 Magnets for aggressive tone and output
  • Compensated Bridge for even volume across all pickups
  • Fully Hum-Cancelling and silent in all positions
  • Adjustable Steel Pole pieces for fine-tuning string balance
  • Hand-wound with our “Sectioning” technique for unique, dynamic tone
  • Hand-built for unrivaled quality control
  • 10-Year Warranty on manufacturing defects

For those who love the sound of Vintage P-90 pickups, now you can fit them into the humbucker-routed guitar. Thick and robust, bold, and in-your-face. The Fralin P-92 is quick to break up, but you’ll find that it’s still clearer, like traditional Vintage P90s. Built with alnico V magnets, we use 42-gauge or 43 gauge wire depending on the strength you need. When playing clean, you’ll find that this pickup has a thicker, bold tone with a stiff high end. With distortion, you’ll find that the grind is dirtier than our Big Single, but not as much as a typical Humbucker.
Players who want a sparkly-top end should look at our Twangmasters, as our P-92’s sound more like a Gibson. Expect a harder treble and a more stiff attack.

It all starts here: our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. Our P-92’s consist of USA-Made bobbins, baseplates, magnets, and wire. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, bright tone. We assemble each pickup one at a time, by hand. This allows us to achieve unbeatable attention to detail. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.

  1. What’s the tonal difference between this and your Hum-Cancelling P90? The Hum-Cancelling P90 is slightly louder, darker, and thicker. It’s quicker to break up. The P-92 is more of a blend with a traditional Vintage P90 – cleaner and clearer.
  2. What output do I choose? The best selling set is a Stock Neck and a Stock Bridge. Getting more turns will add midrange and make the pickup sound darker and thicker. Going with fewer turns will make the pickup sound clearer and more articulate.
  3. What lead do I choose? This depends on your guitar and a few other things. Gibson Lead: Go with this if installing a set into a Gibson-style instrument, where each pickup has its respective volume pot. 2-Conductor: Go with this lead if buying a Single, or installing into a Fender-style instrument.
  4. Will this fit in a Humbucker Position? Yes. It’s Gibson humbucker sized.
  5. What’s the String Spacing? 50mm.
  6. How far away do the strings need to be from the pickup? Push your Low E String down at the highest fret. Measure from the top of the pole piece to the bottom of the string. The ideal starting location should be 1/8″ on the bass string, and 1/16″ on the treble string when the High E string is pushed down at the highest fret.

I put a P-92 front pickup on an ES-335. To me, it sounds better than the humbucker did. I play a Strat a lot of the time and the P-92 is more reminiscent of a strat front pick up than the humbucker was. It is also dead quiet, no hum.

    P-92s in a D’Angelico 335 style

I swapped out the stock Kent Armstrong humbuckers with the Fralin P-92s in my D’Angelico 335 style guitar. The P-92s sound really clear as I had hoped. The stock humbuckers sounded muddy to my ear – good for blues, perhaps. Not so good for jazz and Latin/African music that I often play. To my surprise, the P92s also improved the dynamic response of the instrument. The “touch” of the guitar is improved/enhanced with the P-92s. I have a Godin archtop (Uptown) that plays and sounds very good. It has Godin humbuckers. The P-92s have a better dynamic touch/response than these pickups. I am considering P-92s for this guitar…haven’t decided. I appreciate Lindy’s personal input. It helped a lot. Thanks, Boston musician, Mark Torgerson

Nice replacement! My faux Telecaster had a muddy humbucker in the neck position. I replaced it with a P-92 to brighten the sound. It worked like a dream.

I don’t get along with standard Humbuckers. They just don’t work for me, but I really like p90 type tones. Part of the issue is that I play with a big fat gypsy pick — 3.5mm — and I hit really, really, really hard. This causes a perceived “scoop” in the mids with a regular humbucker and causes the low notes on the E and A strings to disappear on the bandstand.

Why I waited so long to try a p-92 is beyond me. I put it in the neck position of my Comins GCS-16 laminated archtop and it’s exactly what I wanted. Brighter than a p90, but still with a good mids support. I play through either a PRRI or a 5E3 clone. Jazz, Swing and a bit of Jump Blues.

I previously had the Hum-Cancelling P-90 in a Humbucker Cover in the guitar and while it was a good sound, it was a bit darker than I wanted and a bit too compressed for my tastes. I also tried a p90 in Humbucker Cover and it was way too dark in that guitar. The p92 is right in the goldilocks zone, not too bright, not too dark, not too mid-heavy, not too scooped. It’s just right.

    A Loyal Fralin Guitar Player
Lindy, thank you so much for the personal attention and advice that you and your staff provided in my decision to try the Pure PAFs in my Gibson ES-335 and your P-92’s in my Gibson SG Supreme. Both were older guitars with the original humbuckers. I am absolutely sold on the new Fralin pickups and they are everything that you said they would be and more. The clarity, expressiveness, and articulation of these pickups is phenomenal! I am a blues and jazz style player and tend to favor a cleaner sound letting the natural tube saturation of my amps do the work. The Pure PAFs are perfect in my ES-335 and “pure” is the best description I can think of. The P-92s in my SG is nothing short of amazing. I know some “soapbar” purists may not agree, but I can’t tolerate single-coil hum. These pickups are completely noiseless and they now give my SG a tonal character and range I never thought possible. I am now eyeing up some other guitars in my collection for a possible Fralin makeover! Thank you again.

I put a P92 in the bridge position of a Music Man Silhouette. After speaking to Mr. Fralin about what I was trying to achieve, he sent me the pickup and it delivered…big time. Beautiful, snappy cleans at low volume morphing into very smooth and round as the volume on the amp is turned up. Somewhere between Fender and Gibson.Pretty much what I was hoping for and dead quiet. A true gem. Highly recommended. Great service from a guy who knows his stuff.

Sweet distinct upgrade. Being mounted in neck position Les Paul Classic Ebony with original 61 R/61 T Zebra pickups w/push-pull coil-tap. The stock pickup was too muddy and raw for my taste and style. Fralin P-92 gives clarity, high string distinction, dynamics, and a lovely punch. Love it.

I just received and installed a P92 pickup for my EP LP JR.

You guys probably hear this all the time, but all i can say is – WOW! It sounds just fantastic, and is dead quiet as advertised and as i hoped for, but didn’t really expect to achieve.

Does it sound like a real P90? I don’t know. I don’t have one handy to compare.

Does it sound like i imagined it would in this guitar? Yes, absolutely what i was hoping for.

Thanks, and you can expect more orders from me in the future.

Perfect for me, bought em’ twice
I put the stock P92s in my Les Paul years ago and loved them so much that I decided to put a slightly underwound pair in my semi-hollow body. They’re perfect, great detail and midrange without sounding harsh, and as everyone who’s played through these will tell you, the neck is killer with its tight low end. Totally noiseless too!

I assembled a Strat style guitar from Warmoth parts for my son. I installed a pair of these pickups–a bit pricey for me, but they were exactly what I was looking for. I ordered another one for a new build for me, but haven’t gotten around to that yet, so I installed it in the neck position of a Les Paul. The sound out of that pickup is exactly what I wanted as well. These P92 pickups are very nice sounding. Warmer than single coils, but much quieter than P90’s, and much more articulate than most humbuckers I’ve tried over the years. And my son is satisfied with his guitar!

  14. Stephen Vroman (verified owner)

    Nailed it
After a few emails explaining what I was looking for tone-wise, the Fralin folks suggested an underwound P92. It really sounds great, having some of the girth of a P90 without being too midrange-y!

  15. David Noble (verified owner)

So I am new to the world of SG guitars. I have spent the better part of my 30 years of playing guitar with Fender Strats and Teles. The stock neck humbucker on my SG sounded muddy and unusable. However, the P-92 solved that problem. In the middle position, it blends well with the bridge pickup but has its own chime-y clarity in the neck position. Thanks for saving my SG Mr. Fralin!!!

  16. Christopher Meuret (verified owner)

    Very balanced and articulate.
Sounds like a clear articulate humbucker, which is just what I wanted. Thank you.

Ordered the P-92 for my MIM Strat with a DiMarzio FS-1 middle and factory neck (I unapologetically love the tone of the MIM early 2000s Fender neck PUPs). A week later, I ordered the Blender Pot Kit and bought a 500k pot. Wired it up using the Modified HSS diagram but only used the Magic Cap on the tone pot. Then I finally plugged in. I don’t really know how to explain it. I can only say that there is an elegance in Mr. Fralin’s genius. Also, it can’t go without saying that the quality of the customer service is as good as the products. I actually can’t say that because this Lindy Blender Bucker is so badass but you get the point. 5 stars.

Best Sounding Pickup! 9000 turns – rich harmonics, full, good clarity, and very dynamic. Works well with all my pedals. I installed this in modified Tele HH. I eliminated the neck pickup and installed the P92 in the bridge position and modified the switching.

    I’m pleased
I ordered a neck P-92 with the recommended winding (whatever that is). It sounds pretty much exactly as described: a slightly airy P-90. Paired here with a tapped humbucker. Has enough top end to blend nicely with the single coil (with series humcanceling coil) and enough beef to match the full humbucker, and sounds great by itself, like a slightly underwound P90.

In case you can’t tell, I’m pleased. Would order again.

I purchased a set of the P-92’s for a custom built Tele-deluxe that I’d had for years. The guitar is very light Swamp Ash body with a really fat Maple neck with an Ebony slab finger board. I originally had a set of Seymour Duncan ‘59s, which were sweet, but didn’t have much (any?) snap, or clarity. The neck was pretty muddy and indistinctive. Especially if you were over driving the amp.
I’ve always liked single coil pups, but wanted to keep some deeper midrange in an already bright guitar. My thought was humbucker sized P-90’s, but after talking it through with a sales representative at Fralin I went with the P-92’s.
These pickups are really clear, sweet and musical. They are dead quiet. They break up nicely when you’re pushing the amp. They really retain their definition where ever you’re taking them. The neck pup is really, truly awesome. The Bridge has nice squawk and bite. I have a .002 cap to roll off the highs if I’m using an overdrive or soloing.
I’m really liking how my guitar is sounding. I wish I could report on how it sits in a mix with drums and bass, but I haven’t been playing out. It definitely sounds great in jams with other guitar players. Looking forward to surveying my axe through some different amps.
Theses pickups are not “really” P-90 sounding in my guitar. My guitar sounds pretty unique, in a good way. I would be interested to see what they sound like in a Mahogany/Mahogany version of my guitar? I’m sure they would have a different voice. Bottom line, all Lindy Fralin pickups (that I’ve played) are extremely musical.
If you’re looking for a big sounding, P-90’ish, dead quiet, single coil pickups, these are really great! The tone really lets you and your instrument speak.

I had been thinking about adding some Fralin pickups to my 2001 Gibson ES-335 for several years. The guys were kind enough to let me come into the shop and try some of their humbucker options. I was looking for more articulation (less mud) on my neck pickup and was thinking the Sunbucker would do the trick. Tyler suggested I try the P-92, which wasn’t on my radar at all. It magically ticked all of the boxes! The wound strings have more clarity and less mud than the stock Gibson ’57 Classics but the plain strings still sound fat like a humbucker. It almost sounds like there is a separate pickup for the wound and plain strings, it’s amazing! This pickup is not overly bright in the neck position of my 335, it still sounds very fat but has a lot more clarity than the stock pickups. It also breaks up in a very cool and dynamic way. Grittier than the ’57 Classics, more like a single-coil. It’s a joy to play with the dynamics and hear the response from the pickup. Mine is 8,000 winds which pairs really well with the 7.6k Pure PAF I had put in the bridge position. If you’re looking for some more clarity in your neck humbucker (even if you’re not a P-90 fan), I highly suggest checking these out. They really surprised me and I’m so glad they are in my #1 guitar.

I’ll be back soon to add some of the Fralin magic to more of my guitars. The pickups sound incredible and all of the guys in the shop are friendly, approachable and REALLY know what they’re talking about. Thanks!

I probably looked at 20 different pickup sets and listened to twice as many sound clips. These sound so amazing, I’m even happier with them than I thought I’d be. I put a set of 8,200/9,200 in my Epiphone SG project guitar and it sounds amazing. Easily as good if not better than some Gibson SGs I’ve played. P-92s really took this project to the next level, super happy I chose to go with these.

I was looking to get a little more bite and added string/note clarity with a punch in the mids and these definitely did it. They honestly exceeded my expectations.

For reference, using for: Pysch Rock/Garage Rock, lot’s of delay, fuzz, reverb, chorus pedals >> Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212

My objective: The P90 punch from my ES-355 with no modification. I looked around, read A LOT of reviews on P90 options. I found tons of praise for the P92 and zero complaints. I knew the Fralin name, but never dropped a set in any of my guitars. Before I ordered, I thought I’d call the help line for some opinions, and Lindy answered. Sorry, that just impressed me. If I owned a business, put my name on a product, I’d like to take the call, which anyone knows isn’t as possible/probable as it may seem. After our conversation and a wee bit more deliberation I ordered a set online (8000 neck, 9200 bridge) before the Christmas deadline (present for me). They were delivered before the big day as advertised and I installed the day after, HAPPY! They make my Epi shine, scream, and articulate anything and everything I was hoping to hear from my workhorse. Mission accomplished, thank you.

Having loved the Fralin P90s in my tele (which I still love), I decided to try a P92 for the bridge position of my HSS strat. I had a very nice humbucker in that position, but was having difficulty balancing it with the two single coil pickups, in terms of volume of gain. Well, the P92 was a great idea, as it balances well with single coils. To me, it has the feel of a P90 with the warmth of an older humbucker. When I switch between the neck and bridge pickups, I hear absolutely no change in volume, which makes me very happy. The tone of the P92 in a clean amp reminds me of early B.B. King. Single notes are warm, but well-defined. With some overdrive, it has a nice, midrangy “squawk” that reminds me of the first few ZZ Top albums. Overall, great pickup! Thanks!!

Lindy, you’ve done it again! I just had my local luthier install your 8200/9200 P92 set in my 2017 Gibson SG Standard T. I’ll be the first to admit I know little about what makes these pickups work so well, but I’ve been playing for over 40 years and I am DANG picky about tone. The P92s in this guitar are pure magic- articulate enough for clean chording, comping and soloing; convincing jazz tones with the tone controls rolled back on the guitar and, cranked, through a JRAD Archer (Klon type pedal) into a 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb PTP … WOAH! Somehow thick and biting at the same time- articulate yet “in your face” crunch and sustain! Glorious tone on both neck and bridge pickups and, unusual for me- fantastic tone in the middle position too! I had to force myself to put the guitar down this morning in order to get to work on time! ALSO, before purchasing these pickups I spoke with Lindy via phone; as always he is kind and gracious, answering questions and treating me like I was someone special (I’m not a pro performer- just a guitar nut!). Thanks so much Lindy! If this old guy can manage it- I’ll post some clips on the cloud for others to evaluate…

I’ve been installing and recommending P-92s for the past 10 years. I’ve never heard of anyone that wasn’t absolutely thrilled with the tone. Install a set and have a P-90 dream machine without the soapbar routing, or put one in the neck position opposite a high output humbucker at the bridge for a very versatile tone monster. This is one pickup that I’d say would truly work great in any type of guitar. It’s just a matter of what flavor of awesome tone you’ll get based on what you put them in. Fralin customer service has always been great as well.

I just replaced the Seth Lover Humbucker in my G&L Bluesboy with this P92, and it sounds phenomenal. So thrilled with the tone, bite and character of this pick up, and how it blends with the single coil bridge. It is magical. Thank you!

  32. Dan Schwalbe

Fantastic pick ups. They replaced a set of stock Seth’s in my Heritage H525. They sound great.

  33. Jarrod

Got the 8,200 neck and 9,200 bridge. They sound like really FAT, hot, overwound p90’s. Full and round yet still bitey with great sustain and harmonic content. They are absolutely dead silent. Put them into some fuzz and delay and have some real fun. Excellent for leads. My new favorite pickups.

  34. Matt F

I purchased a neck P92 and a bridge Dimarzio 36th Anniversary last year for my favorite guitar. After installing the pickups, I realized that in this guitar the neck sounded a bit too dark and the bridge sounded a bit too bright. Huh….
So, I swapped them and it’s magic.
The P92 is, without a doubt, my favorite pickup ever. The tone is fantastic. It has great low end (firm and powerful-not wooly or undefined) and a sweet top end (just the right amount of bite and sparkle), but it’s the mids that make this stand out. In a shootout with every other humbucker sized P90 around (https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/20058-humbucker-sized-p-90-review-roundup?page=3), the P92 stood out with one other – the Fralin P0. The reason why these 2 stood out is the mids were wonderfully complex. I could hear frequencies present in these 2 that were missing in almost every other pickup.
I play heavy music. REALLY heavy music. This pickup is the best sounding pickup I have ever used. The P92 is totally responsive to playing dynamics and volume control adjustments. It can whisper, sing, scream and roar. Even at full gain, you can just lower the volume and voila! You get a great crunch with amazing dynamics. Dime it and it’s a monster (albeit one wearing a Tuxedo and speaking articulately before it rips your face off).
Thank you Mr. Fralin. You made my favorite player my best sounding guitar as well.
