Sound

Get excited – Fralin P90s covers an impressive, broad tonal spectrum.

Featuring a clear neck and an overwound bridge, our P90s have that undeniable thick Single-Coil tone with a distinct wound string, and percussive treble string. The midrange is full, thick, and warm – perfect for adding depth to your guitar.

Are you looking for the traditional Fender-type sparkle? You won’t find that here. The Fralin P90 is all Gibson! For that, we recommend checking out our Hum Cancelling Alnico Rod model.

Whether playing clean or dirty, we guarantee the “3-dimensional depth” that the Fralin P90 provides will inspire you for years to come. Single notes are punchy and clear without sounding tinny, and chords break up with a tight compression that’s guaranteed to push your amp.

And with a hand-wound scatter-wound coil, your pickup is as unique as you are – each coil features a subtly unique voice that will undoubtedly inspire you. Experience what you’ve been missing and give your guitar the P90 voice it was meant to have with the Fralin P90.

It all starts here: our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. Lindy Fralin’s P90 in a Humbucker Cover consists of a precision injection mold and USA-Made Steel Screws. We use USA-Made Alnico 4 magnets to make this model scream. Each bobbin is carefully inspected and cleaned before winding.

We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This winding technique gives our pickups a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to and prevent microphonics and preserve the pickup for years to come.

Lead Color Codes

See below for our Lead color codes. For help with matching to other manufacturers, check out this resource here.

Gibson Braided Lead:

2-Conductor With Shield
Gibson Braided Lead - Use on Gibson-Style Instruments only, where each pickup has it's own respective volume and tone pot. Do not select this lead on Fender-style instruments, unless the instrument is wired like a Gibson, like a Telecaster Deluxe. This lead is non-reversible. You cannot split the humbucker with this lead.

2-Conductor Lead:

2-Conductor With Shield
Two-Conductor Lead - Select this lead if wiring to a Blade Switch or buying a single pickup. 2-Conductor allows you to reverse the phase of the pickup.

  1. Q Is the stock P90 set hum cancelling when both pickups are selected?
    A Hey Garth, yes!
  2. Have you ever had anybody mail pickups (two of your P90- Humbuckers) back to you to install in a pre-wired pickguard? I have a 2016 Fender Stratocaster Elite and instead of swapping out pickups I would prefer to do an entire pick guard, switch, pots, etc. Thanks, Todd

Hey Todd, as it turns out, we don't really do that here. It's better to take the parts to a local luthier and have them install everything in your pickguard. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

  4. I have a Gibson SG with Classic 57s that I want to convert to P90s and I've settled on the Fralin P90 - Humbuckers. I'm going to need to replace the wiring harness because it has coil splits and I want to get rid of all that stuff. First question is should I go with the stock winding? I just got a Les Paul Special P90 and I love that tone. The closer I can get to that, the better, even though I know the SG will probably have a bit thinner and les... Read more

Hey George, we would recommend the Stock Winding for your setup - you'll get a vintage P90 tone and output. To address your second question, there's really not much sonic difference between 500K and 550K, in my experience. If there is, it's extremely subtle and your tone won't be disaffected by it at all.

  6. Hi! I have a Danelectro Baritone 66bt and I love the weird lipstick bridge pickups, but I'm underwhelmed with the stock humbucker-sized p90 in the neck. Looking to replace the just the neck pickup with a Fralin humbucker-size p90. Which Fralin would you recommend for this guitar and to match with the danelectro lipstick bridge?

Hey Jake, I'd recommend going with a stock P90 Humbucker neck pickup, with 2-Conductor Lead. It should match really nicely.

  8. Hi! I have a stock set of your P90 HB that I'm basically very happy with. But, sometimes I'm wondering if the bridge could be a little thicker, not so much darker. So my question is, which HB would pair best with the neck P90 HB. A Pure PAF 8.2... or something else?

Hey Jaako, the 8.2K Pure P.A.F would actually be a really nice match. I've performed that combination on a 335 I owned and it sounded great. It's a thicker, warmer tone with a lot of brightness. - Tyler

I was shocked at how good this pickup turned out. Easy to install, sounds great, highly recommended to anyone looking for something outside of your usual humbucker or single coil guitar. Will happily get another when the time comes. Thanks!

I popped these babies into my SG and man! Glad I did. The sound is fantastic out of the box and when I fine tuned the screw heights to the strings, the levels are perfect. Theyvare soooo expressive. Now, I am admittedly more of a single coil guy over a burst bucket, but even so, I’m considering swapping the humbuckers out of my Tele deluxe with some more of these. Lindy Fralin has turned all of my favorite guitars to play into my favorites, and these are no exception.

  3. Cepheus Strachan
    Verified Buyer

These pickups are astounding. Far superior to GFS and Seymour Duncan. I believe the perfect description for other humbucker size p90s is ” pinched sounding “. These pickups are open, warm, and glassy. They really brought my PRS hollow body II to life.

  4. Toshio Yamada
    Verified Buyer

1st off, order was fulfilled quickly, packaging was nice, installation support was good.
2nd, the pickup is nice, solid construction, good shielded cable and chrome pickup cover.
3rd, it sounds frikkin good. I never liked the 498T that came in my LP, the Lindy P90 feels so much better, also works great in the center position out of phase with the bridge 490T for that hollow blues tone.
I actually use the bridge pickup now, great for chickin-pickin or with a fuzz for lead tone.
While some may like the 498T, I consider the Lindy P90 a major upgrade, much more responsive and open.

The P-90-Humbucker pick up that I purchased for my parts built Esquire is one great pick up. The tonal range is quite astonishing and it’s got more power than I’ll need. Thanks for a great product, 5 stars.

  6. Jon Earl Spyker
    Verified Buyer

These pickups are outstanding. They are my first venture into P-90 world, so I put them in a kit guitar that I destroyed and rebuilt, and wonder why I waited so long to try them. I get comments about how good they sound. I will be buying more for future builds. The midrange is fat and musical, and it cleans up nicely when the volume is rolled back.
    Highly recommended.

  7. Eddie

Wow, just WOW! I put a set of these (standard wind) in a 61 SG reissue and got exactly what I wanted…Pete, Live At Leeds, Pete!

P-90 set, Stock windings, snazzy black covers in a PRS Custom 24.
To my ears these are the most musical of pickups! Read all the info above that the Fralin folks provided and ALL the adjectives and superlatives you’ll see, are right here in this set they wound for me and I am sure your set will be that as well. These pickups (to me) are like getting the best parts of single coil high and low end, with extra sizzle on the highs when you crank up the guitar volume knob….all the middle frequencies from a great humbucker….and (the best part) attitude for days when you open them up and wonderful cleans when you back them down. Since I know you’re reading the reviews…just buy these, you won’t be disappointed.

  9. Matt Malone

Out of this world customer service. Very efficient shipping. Most importantly, an incredible product. I’ve been a PAF lover my entire 30yrs of guitar playing. I enjoy a single coil from time to time. This is the worlds best pickup. A perfect blend of snarl but a bit of quack. I think I actually prefer this over a PAF. Incredible build quality. This was my first Fralin purchase. I will be back for sure. Epic.
