How It's Made:
Sound & Video
The Split Jazz Bass sounds like a single-coil Jazz Bass pickup, only thicker and darker. As soon as you plug in, you’ll notice the hum-free tone. Designed with a pronounced midrange, expect a thicker, beefier tone. You’ll find these pickups speak what you tell them to – soft and quiet, or digging in. Our Split Jazz Bass Pickups, provide authentic Jazz Bass tone with better articulation. We hand-wind these pickups using our unique formula to give them exceptional balance and tone. We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:
- For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and fewer highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

I ordered a set of the split jazz pickups with a 5% overwind and the concentric volume/tone control plate for a fretless jazz build and recently completed the bass. The split jazz sound great, no hum and great output. I’m able to dial in just the sound I wanted. The concentric control plate is perfect for my needs. I love the ability to adjust each pickups volume and tone independently. Thanks guys, I will certainly look to you for my next build.

I couldn’t be happier with these pickups! Right off the bat there was a noticeable difference in the depth of tone compared to the stock pickups on my Fender AP. More power and “roundness” in the lows and mids with just the right amount brightness in the highs. Very well balanced and perfectly responsive to different dynamics and playing styles. I ordered a 5% overwind on the neck pickup and stock wind on the bridge. Truly a great upgrade to an already great instrument. As far as service goes my experience was top notch. The pickups shipped much earlier than expected and came packaged with care. I’m glad I finally pulled the trigger and made this upgrade.

I got the 5% overwound bridge split jazz pickup to go with the Seymour Duncan SPD-1 Vintage precision bass pickup on my PJ style bass. The Fralin bridge pickup matches great in output and has better low end and mids than the stock jazz pickup. No noise as far as I can tell. The pickup does what I want, it balanced the precision pickup quite well and gives clarity and pick attack responsive grit to my sound. I usually run around 60% precision to 40% bridge ratio on my blend knob. With some big phaser and the Fralin bridge cranked, it gets very funky when plucking and popping. I’m doing stuff from late 70s/80s post punk, psychedelic rock, to disco/pop sounding stuff with this bass in a band that does original material. Works great with chorus, phaser, fuzz, overdrive, and octave pedal. This is on a standard scale bass(A Chinese Aria Detroit MKII clone) with an ash body and roasted maple neck/fretbkard, 45-105 nickelrounds. My band noticed the upgrade was great in the mix and our session recordings. My expectations are surpassed and if ever get another bass(probably a jazz bass), I would definitely put a pair of these in it, you can tell this is top notch hardware. It also installed quite easy in the pickup cavity and had plenty of wire length. I would say the build quality and sturdiness is superior to Seymour Duncan.
-
I can not express how good these pickups sound! 10% overwind in the neck and 5% overwind in the bridge! My jazz bass has soul now! These pickups definitely have some sort of magic in em! Thank you guys! I will be back for more on my next build!
-
I replaced the fender v-mod 2 pickups on my Fender American Professional 2 passive four string jazz bass with the Fralin 5% overwound split coil jazz pickups and couldn’t be happier. I also upgraded to the prewired control plate with 250k pots and Fralin .02 mustard cap. A serious upgrade in dynamic, touch sensitive response as well as warm and firm fundamental. The pickup blend positions are much more useful and versatile as is the tone control. Customer service is amazing here. The control plate came beautifully soldered with placeholder leads well labeled making install a breeze.

Dies ist bereits mein dritter Pickup von Lindy Fralin. Und auch er erfüllt meine Erwartungen voll und ganz. Ich bin sehr zufrieden.

-
Put jazz bass split coil pickups in a 1984 fender mij fretless jazz bass . They sound wonderful , a lot of people including band members say that bass sounds great!!!
-
I installed this pickup set immediately upon arrival to replace the “noiseless” pickups in my Jazz Bass Ultra, which still produced a noticeable hum in certain positions. These Fralin pickups completely eliminated that noise and took my tone to a whole new level, it’s cleaner, growlier, and punchier than ever. The difference is night and day. Easily my best purchase to date, absolutely no disappointment here. Hands down, Fralin rocks!
-
Fantastic!!! I just finished a resto on my ’72 jazz bass. It looked like a P.O. pulled all the hardware, pickups, everything and put crap EMGs and poor quality hardware, etc. I put the split coils on it and WOW! Never heard a passive bass sound so good! I’ve been playing 64 years and havent had anything sound so good. I’m amazed and I am not easily amazed! Thanks Lindy those are a +++++
-
I just got my Bronco bass back from my luthier with the split jazz pickup to join the 51 p pickup we installed in January. This thing sound A M A Z I N G!! With separate volume controls, I can get any number of vintage fender bass sounds. Shout to the Fralin team, y’all rock!
-
These pick ups are amazing! I bought the 5% over wound so it gives my Adam Clayton jazz bass a big amount of out put and oomph. Thanks such a great product!
-
Didn’t NEED new pickups, but the existing ones didn’t work with the specific Audere preamp I was installing. After confirming these did not have grounded poles, I got the split jazz regular neck and +5% bridge. They are perfectly balanced and excellent tone. It is going to be my main bass because of how usable and versatile it is. No need anymore to worry about hum or volume differences when panning pickups. Exactly what I had hoped for. Thanks, Fralin team!
