Fralin Steel Pole 42 Strat Replacements: 50% Single Coil, 50% P-90 Tone! Built with adjustable steel pole pieces, these pickups take on some of the character of a P-90 for a big, round Strat tone. These pickups sound big, bold, and mean!

THE PERFECT BALANCE OF P-90 AGGRESSION WITH SINGLE COIL BITE.

The Steel Pole 42 set of Single Coil Pickups is one of our most popular sets of pickups. The perfect blend between a P-90 and a single-coil. Musicians looking for a thick, warm, and beefier sound will love the sound of Steel Pole 42 pickups. Steel Pole 42’s are wound with 42-gauge coil, and feature a ceramic bar magnet that blends the P-90 and single-coil sound perfectly. These pickups are beefier than the Blues Specials and our High Outputs, while still remaining bright and snappy.

FEATURES:

  • P-90/Single Coil Hybrid sound, in a Single Coil Position
  • Huge mid-range tone with a Ceramic bite. This equals more growl and aggression
  • Adjustable pole pieces so you can fine tune string balance and stagger
  • In a set, the Bridge Pickup is calibrated to sound just as hot as the neck pickup
  • Features a Ceramic Bar Magnet
  • The pickups come with your choice of White, Black, Yellow (Aged White), or Green covers.

Sound:

When playing clean, Steel Pole 42’s sound large and rich, especially in the lows and highs. Not as dark as a P-90, these pickups retain a beautiful openness and clarity while still remaining very dynamic. Steel Pole 42’s sound thicker in the midrange with more of a “chainsaw” grind, as opposed to a smoother AlNiCo distortion. For musicians looking for more of a traditional P-90 sound, we recommend using our Steel Pole 43 Pickups.

CHOOSING THE PICKUP:

Our Complete Set is our best-selling option. It has a slightly hotter bridge to compensate for the brightness near the bridge. If you’re buying a single pickup, please see the box below describing the information we need to get you the correct polarity information, and read this important article: “What’s The Deal With Polarity?”

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

Hand wound with 42 gauge Single Poly Nylon wire, a Ceramic Bar Magnet and cloth leads. We recommend using 250K Pots with these pickups. Please see notes on Polarity below – if buying a single pickup, you might have difficulty matching ours to what’s already in your guitar. Steel Pole 42’s will read approximately 6K in the Neck and Middle, and 6.8K in the Bridge.

Note Before Purchase:
If buying a set of Steel Pole 42’s, you will get a Reverse Middle pickup. If buying singles, you might have an issue matching our pickup to yours due to Magnet Polarity and Coil Direction Polarity. Please check to see before ordering, and if you have any special requirements, simply add them to the “Notes” field upon Checkout. See below for Polarity information.

These pickups rock! They add beef to cut through the mix and handle pedals really well. Also, they are clean, articulate, and dripping with tone.

Lindy wound a set of these for me in 2003, and they’ve served me well ever since. The Strat I put them into had always played like a dream, and sounded rich and full acoustically, but I’d never found a pickup set that seemed to reflect that, and while on tour, it was giving me issues as the output from what was in there was so anemic compared to my other stage axes. I met with the guys, Lindy was incredibly gracious and smart, and we tried out a bunch of guitars. The sunburst Rodriguez guitar with the 42s was blowing my guitar out of the water in his testing room, so that’s what decided it for me.
