Sound

Alnico Rod Style:

The Alnico Rod style features a broad and thick-sounding midrange, with a top-end sparkle. This model is our Hum Cancelling P90 with Alnico Rods, in a DynaSonic housing. The USA-Made Alnico 5 Magnets give this pickup a dynamic, breathable top-end clarity not found in screw pole pieces.

Clean and articulate when playing without distortion. You’ll find that the nuances of your playing will come out as this pickup “breathes” more than it’s compressed P90 counterpart. With distortion, you’ll find a smooth, late breakup with a familiar Fender Strat-type tone. You’ll notice the pronounced Midrange of this pickup as well. You’ll find that the Alnico Rod version will still sound fat and beefy!

P90 Style:

Expect a thick, darker, round bottom-end, and a rounder, less aggressive top-end, with a clear, fat midrange in-between. The Hum-Cancelling P-90 style still has that undeniable thick Single-Coil tone that you love, only with no hum at all. Single notes have a punchy, solid sonic footprint and have great sustain. Chords break up nicely with slight compression and excellent note separation. The Output is almost identical to our Stock P-90’s, and they sound incredibly similar – just a little thicker in the midrange. Expect a denser and stiffer treble, not like the Alnico Rod Version which allows you to have more dynamics in your treble.

Gibson Braided Lead
Only select Gibson Braided Lead if you install these pickups as a set into a Gibson-style instrument. Examples of a Gibson-style instrument include a Gibson Les Paul, 335, or Telecaster Deluxe, or any guitar with two Volume Pots and two Tone Pots.

Note: This lead is not intended for Telecasters with a Control Plate. If the braiding touches anything, it will short it out.

2-Conductor Lead:

Phase Reversible

2 Conductor Lead Fralin Pickups
Select 2-Conductor Lead if purchasing a single pickup or wiring this pickup to a Blade Switch (like a Fender-style instrument). 2-Conductor allows you to reverse the phase of the pickup.

DynaSonic FAQ's

General FAQs

Here are quick answers to common questions we get:

  • What Ohm Readings does your DynaSonic have?

Navigate to our Tech Specs Tab for complete Ohm Readings and more useful information.

  • Will this pickup fit my instrument?

Check our "Sizing" tab for the size of the pickup. No Sizing tab? Check under the product image gallery for dimensions.

  • Is your Lead Time of 3-4 Weeks accurate?

It really depends on the shop capacity at the moment, and the size of your order. Feel free to give us a call for an accurate lead time. We always try to underpromise and overdeliver.

  • What pickup height do you recommend setting your DynaSonics to?

Our recommended Pickup Height is 1/8" (3.175mm) on the Bass Side and 1/16"( 1.5875mm) on the Treble Side. Measure by holding the corresponding side down at its highest fret and measure from the bottom of the string to the top of the pole piece.

Received my Hum-Cancelling Dynasonics and replaced my TV Jones T-Armond pickups in my ’65 Gretsch Astro-Jet surf build. The T-Armonds are excellent but I’m on a noiseless single-coil kick and Lindy’s pickups are outstanding. These are my first Fralin Dynasonics and I was not disappointed.

To Lindy: Is it possible to house these in the typical “Universal” Filter’Tron casing? I’d love to swap out my TV Jones T-Armonds out of my Gretsch G6120BS for noiseless Dynasonic goodness.

Overall, super happy with the Fralin Dynasonic pickups – thanks, Lindy!

    To Lindy and the team,
I completed my first guitar build on a ‘partscaster’; swamp ash body and roasted maple neck with a Bigsby tailpiece. I used your Dynasonic, P90 and split blade Telecaster pickups. I replaced the tone control with a blender pot for the bridge and neck pickups. I couldn’t be happier. I have 3 distinct sounds from each pickup that are all loud and clear. I am using a hand made 5E3 clone amp and the tone is the best of all my guitars with the new Fralin pickups. Lindy thanks for your help selecting the pickups and with some follow questions during installation. I am still tweaking the pickup height adjustments to get equal volume and max tone. I will be recommending your products.

I just had the alnico bridge Dynasonic installed in a Gretsch 6120 Eddie Cochran signature model replacing the stock pickup. It’s crystal clear with a balanced midrange and a bell like high end when lightly strummed or finger picked. And it gets nice and dirty when you dig in with a heavier attack. And absolutely no hum! Get one, heck get two!

  6. Charlie McMahan

I have a question…I had a Gretsch Duane Eddy model with DynaSonics. Wish I hadn’t sold it. Anyhow was wondering if a Fralin DynaSonic in another guitar, perhaps even a solid body, would give me that sound back? It’s a crisp , twangy, sound that I just love. Can you advise me? Also will it fit where a P90 has been installed? Thanks!

The best sound I’ve gotten out of my Gretsch!

I’ve tried numerous pickups in my 6120, and nothing ever sounded the way I heard in my head. After falling in love with the Steel Pole P90 in my strat, I thought I’d give the Dyna a try (and convert my 6120 to an Eddie Cochran inspired P90 neck/Dyna bridge). The outcome is perfect. When pushed, the Dyna in the bridge can be a compressed and gritty rock and roll machine. When rolled back it has all the clean chime to nail the country vibe. I now have Fralins in all my guitars and couldn’t be more pleased.

    LOVE these new DynaSonics!

Fralin folks. I received my DynaSonics as a Christmas present from my mother, Maureen Romanosky. Had my father, Ron ( part time Luthier) put them in. They look amazing and sound even better. We are still fine tuning them, but so far they are all that I hoped for!
    Thanks, Walt Romanosky

I play in a band that performs music by The Beatles, Petty, The Byrds, Gin Blossoms as well as some jam tunes and asked Lindy for a recommendation on pickups that could do both the Jangle/Chime and a bit heavier sound in the same guitar and still be well balanced in volume. The Fralin DynaSonic (Bridge pickup) does the job without the ice pick ear bleed of other pickups. It also works GREAT with a Jangle Box because you do NOT get the typical squeal and amplified noises you do with many single pickups as Lindy’s DynaSonic is a hum bucking pickup. I’m very pleased with the pickup as I get all the Jangle and NO NOISE!
