PRODUCT OPTIONS:

Select Options Above To Display Add-Ons

Raised Centers

Choose this option if you want raised center pole piece magnets on your pickups. This helps with string balance on fingerboards with a radius of less than 9.5 inches. Do not choose this option if you have a flat fingerboard.

Neck-Sized Bridge

In some cases, Fender Mexican Jazz Bass will have an equal-sized Neck & Bridge pickup. We can make this for you. Measure your pickups, and if they are the same, check this box!

Notice

Due to the nature of Raw Nickel, Raw Nickel may contain slight cosemetic defects or abrasions.

Recommendation

We recommend using 2-Conductor With Shield Lead when purchasing a single pickup. 2-Conductor lead allows you to reverse the phase should you have phase issues. Learn About Lead Choice

Lead Time

A Lead Time of 3 Weeks is just an estimate. Lead Times are subject to change depending on the current shop capacity and size of the order. We will always try to complete your order quicker than the stated lead time.

5-String Jazz Bass FEATURES:

Our 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups feature a huge-sounding bottom-end and clarity. We wind these Lindy Fralin Jazz Bass Replacements to 60’s specifications, using top-of-the-line materials to give you a clear, open tone: all across the board. Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control.

These 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups consist of local fiberboard and USA-Made Magnets. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.

Features:

  • 60’s Fender specifications, built for 5-String Jazz Basses
  • Clean and clear, lots of Fender sparkle and clarity
  • USA-made Alnico 5 Magnets for optimal tonal balance and output
  • Compensated Bridge for even volume across all pickups
  • Two magnet staggers available for different fingerboard radiuses
  • Hand-wound with our “Sectioning” technique for unique, dynamic tone
  • Hand-built fiberboard Bobbins for unrivaled quality control
  • 10-Year Warranty on manufacturing defects

Sound

Fralin 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups offer a wide tonal range. They are wound to 60’s Specifications, which give them more output and balance. Expect a sweeter tone, with a warm midrange. Also, you’ll hear top-end sparkle and clarity. Nuances will come to life as you notice increased presence. They will break up late and stay clean longer.

Our Pickups are dynamic – they’ll get punchy if you dig into them. They’ll have top-end spank when you slap them. You’ll also notice they’ll stay soft and dynamic when you play light. Finally, these Jazz Bass Pickups are for those who are not happy with the tone from stock pickups. These tend to be sweeter-sounding, not aggressive. You’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch earlier.
We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:

  • For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
  • For a thicker midrange and less highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
  • If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

Hey David, yes - the 5-String Jazz Bass will work seamlessly with a Preamp.

  4. Hello, I'm considering buying a set of 5 strings Jazz Bass pickups. The one available from one of your dealers in EU right now has a set with stock neck pickup and a +5% overwound bridge pickup. I have two questions. 1. Is it ok to mix stock/overwound on the same set? 2. Is the overwound bridge going to help for a clear yet powerful low B with respect to the stock one? Thanks a lot!

Hey Luca, thanks for your question. It is definitely fine to mix the Stock and +5% Bridge! Both pickups have the same amount of clear low end, the +5% has a bit more power in the midrange and a touch darker tone. It's subtle, but basically, the +5% is a bit "thicker" sounding than the stock bridge. I think you'll like the tone.

  6. Are your Jazz pickups reverse wound?
  7. Q Are your Jazz pickups reverse wound?

Hey Gregg, yes they are, as well as reverse polarity. They will cancel hum in the middle position.

Installed in Warmouth Jazz Bass 5 string bass: I’m delighted with the performance of this pickup. I’ve had previous experience with your products (J-style) with my 4-string Custom and the results where great. Highly recommended!

    Big Improvement
I replaced the OEM pickups and pre on a Fender American Deluxe Jazz. I paired these with an Audere pre but in truth I would go straight passive next time. Nevertheless the pickups are a huge improvement. Real authentic Jazz bass tone. My Jazz bass went from staying in the case to being my # 1 main player! I’ve tried the other brands and can say Fralins are by far the best.

The real vintage sound. These pickups are amazing.

  5. Wally Messer

I installed Lindys in my 2008 American Standard 5 string passive Jazz Bass. This is how a Fender Jazz ought to souns. 1000 percent improvement.

    Awesome Pickups!
I installed these pickups in my Lakland Daryl Jones model 5 string bass, definitley made a big difference, I even went as far as putting Emerson Custom Passive electronics back into the bass, after installing a pre-amp for the previous set of pick-ups which I wasn’t able to get the sound I desired from, Overall, The Lindy Fralin pickups got me the tone I was looking for, and having spoke to Lindy directly on the phone prior to my purchase sealed the deal for me, I give these pickups, and this company a 5 star rating, and will be upgrading several of my other basses to the Lindy Fralins as well. 7. Janis

Hi, can you make this 5 string jazzbass pickup in noiseless version aka. split version like your 4 string J-pickup?

    • Tyler Delsack – Fralin Pickups
      (store manager)

      Hey Janis,

Thanks for your question – we’re working on a few prototype designs, but these designs are just in the infant stages of development at the moment.

First I would like to state that speaking with Lindy personally was a pleasure. Very kind and pleasant person who was helpful when answering my questions concerning my particular needs. I paired the Fralin pickups with the John East J-Retro preamp and couldn’t be happier! They also sound outstanding on their own when the preamp is not in use. My 2000 Fender American Deluxe Jazz V was active only and having the option to go passive is a wonderful asset. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a set of great sounding 5 string Jazz bass pickup replacement.

  9. Steve Bracht

This is how a jazz bass should sound. Other jazz bass’s do not sound as good to me anymore after playing my bass with the Lindys. I will be asking Lindy to make something for another bass very soon. Customer service is also as good as it gets at Lindy Fralin, very helpful nice people who care very much about every detail. Thank you, Lindy Fralin and employees, for the really great pickups!

  10. Jack

The 5-string Jazz Bass split-J pickups that I got were custom made using EMG 40 housings. The custom made split-J pickups replaced the EMG DC pickups that came with the bass. Definitely prefer the sound I’m getting with the custom made split-J 5 pickups.
