Dogear Shim Height Calculator
Calculate what shims you need!
- Select your cover height. Most cover heights are either 1/4" (Short Dogear) or 7/16" (Standard Dogear).
- Depress the Low E string at the highest fret
- With the Low E depressed, measure from the bottom of your pickup to the bottom of the string
- Input that measurement into the "String Height" box, and calculate!
Note: Shims are stackable and sandable. It's good practice to get more shim than you need, then sand it down to meet your measurement.

Reviews We Worked Hard For, and Are Proud Of
I left a review about a week after I received Fralin’s P90s. It’s now been a few weeks and my opinion is maybe even more positive. These are my first Fralin pickups but I’ve had Lollars, Seymour Duncan’s, and Gibson, and the Fralins outshine all. They’re so so smooth, enough power to push my amp but still super dynamic and open, articulate with open chords.
I’m impressed by the amount of treble these things get while staying miles away from being ice-picky. I’m a customer for life.
I own many sets of Lindy's pickups. Lindy's pickups never fail to impress me. The P-90s that I ordered look and sound fantastic in the Epiphone Casino. I also have to say that I appreciate Jenny saving me some money on shipping.
I ordered the P-90s the day before I ordered a Vintage Hot Stratocaster bridge pickup. She emailed me and informed me that she had combined the two orders and that I only had to pay for the shipping once. The customer service that Lindy and his team offer is always top-notch. Thanks again!
Best P90 set I’ve ever played, hands down. I have a super bright semi hollow that I couldn’t tame, these didn’t trick. So smooth I bought stock wound neck and 5% overwound bridge and they balance perfectly to my ears. The bridge is twangy but not overly so and the neck is just buttery.
I’m a Fralin customer for life now.
Easy ordering from the website, reasonable amount of time to prepare, process and ship. Straight forward installation and set up, had to cut the springs to get the right height, as expected. String it up and away it went, beautiful crystal clear clarity, add a little gain and got a little growl. Haven't had a lot of time to do much more yet but I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time with this guitar soon.
Thanks for a great upgrade and great service!
Gadzooks, I've tried the other brands, always come back to Lindy. Nothing else sounds as good. Customer service is second to none. And all Lindy Fralin pickups just sound beautiful, be it single coils, humbuckers, or these amazing sounding P90s.
Tremendous tone on these pickups. I put these in 2003 Epiphone Casino that already had custom pickups installed in it from another manufacturer. I had these underwound by 5% because there are so many other ways to add gain and adjust EQ but you can't create something that isn't there in the first place. Awesome clarity and definition and really nails the 50s/60s sound that I was going for.
Thanks for making a great pickup!
These easily outshine the stock pups that I had in my SG special! I placed these a neck and an overwound bridge in LP Double cut build and glory is the only word that comes to mind! First, I am a huge fan of ALNICO IV magnets and am happy to see them used in this style of pickup...super rare. For me, it's a pickup that is always waiting to be unleashed.
Yes, they clean up smoothly with a great snap, especially the bridge; but when you dig in that's where they really shine! The note-to-note clarity is spectacular with an overdriven tone! NO muddiness and I even found them pretty quiet if you shield the cavities etc.
Should have upgraded years ago I love these P90s. I was looking for a set of P90s that could replace my old factory pickups on my Ibanez Talman. I wanted to keep the polished nickel cover look of the old P90s and there surprisingly are not a lot of after market P90s with polished nickel covers. These Fralins not only look great but sound awesome.
They give you the classic not-too-bright but not-too-dark P90 tone without any harsh frequencies that you might hear in cheaper P90s. Very quiet in my guitar too. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5Just bought a pair of P90’s that I installed on an Epiphone WildKat, knowed for its mediocre tone. Wow and rewow! Not only is it now alive, but it gained tons of dynamics and richness with a color so sweet you want to kiss the guitar.
Excellent work, they really do sound fantastic

Rated 5 out of 5I had a casino coupe I was ready to give up on but instead decided to see if new pickups could convince me it was worth keeping. The stock epi p90 sound is gigantic but in a very undefined way. They are 12k which sounds awesome but is not awesome in reality. There’s a preponderance of low mids which was hiding anything remotely defined. It was impossible to sing in a baritone over the top of anything beyond the bridge setting. When I put in the new Fralin stock p90 option (-10% neck) and a new 50s wiring harness I was startled by how different the guitar sounded. It sounded better and removed that awful low-mid nonsense that was going on. I could sing over the top of what I was playing and yet the guitar still remained it’s hugeness. The neck and middle setting hit hard even on a tiny black star fly amp. I use it with a box of rock and a reverb pedal and it’s epic. Nice job guys.

Wow! A sweet sound with a dynamic and colorful spectrum that made my Epiphone Wild Kat come alive. All this with a personalized service that arrives like butter on toasts or cream on the cake. I strongly recommend these pickups. Marc Levasseur, Montréal Québec

Rated 5 out of 5Great pups, they work well with the maple top LP that they are in. This is my second set of Fralin P90s and I definitely recommend the 15 percent difference between the bridge and neck. Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5The best P90 sound
The best tested P90 pickups. I bought the set. used with a wiring consisting of a three-position selector, 500k pot volume and 500k half-phase push-pull tone pot. Incredible sound and sustain. Big mid-range when clean and chainsaw grind when pushing an amp hard. Pickups very versatile in tone, they pass with the balance from medium-bodied to bright treble. Amazing in the crunch.

Rated 5 out of 5P90 classic bridge pickup. Really good sound clean or distorted. I can’t play well enough to do it justice, but it sets a standard to achieve.

First of all I was very impressed that the owner of the company answered the phone when I called. That being said, Lindy was very helpful with my selection of pickups. I got the stock p90 set. I put them in CASINO that I got a good deal on. Lindy’s P90’s put the sparkle in this guitar, and the grit when you ask for it. The only thing I think I’m going to have to do is put a shim under the neck pickup, we will see. overall a great purchase and super customer service. I’ll look here first the next time I need pickups, Thank you so much!

Rated 5 out of 5P90 Splendor
I’ve known Lindy and have used/sold his pickups for about 20+ years. He’s never failed to “nail it” when it comes to providing me with the sound that was in my head when I placed my order. To my ears, these P90s have the proper balance of midrange to treble. They can both grind when pushed hard as well as be beautiful and subtle when the right-hand calls for it. I’ve never had a customer be anything but thrilled with their purchase. -

Very cool tone from a standard wind p90, the raw cover is too cool. Tough time getting her picked up as everyone wanted a chance to play her, there were some very talented players in there’ll and they loved the tones. Great customer service from Lindy’s crew. Too. Thx. -

Rated 5 out of 5I purchased the neck p90 as part of a set with the tele split steel pole bridge pickup. I had this neck p90 -5% wind and requested the outputs to be even between the two pickups. By chance I used a volume pot that was a little bit higher than 500K and read 545K. I really dug the brighter sound! Subtle but noticeable to my ears. Great sounding pickup, easy to install and quality to last a lifetime. This sound suits any type of music. Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5Fralin P-90, 10% underwound.
For your information, FAO stands for: “For the Attention Of”. It is not my name!!! Jeez…
Anyway, I think Fralin pickups are great. They compare favourably with any other maker’s pickups as far as sound is concerned and their customer service is second to none.
