The Alnico Rod Hum-Cancelling P90 is a brighter, more “Fender-like” sounding version of our best-selling Hum Cancelling P90. It has more top-end sparkle and a cleaner tone with enhanced articulation. Furthermore, it still retains a loud and beefy midrange. As always, this pickup has no hum!

Want to learn more about our Hum-Cancelling P90 With Alnico Rods? Here's all the information you'll need:

Hum-Cancelling P90 With Alnico Rods FEATURES:

The Hum-Cancelling P90 with Alnico Rods is the perfect pickup for those looking for a cleaner, more articulate P90 pickup. It has an airiness and sparkle not found with adjustable pole pieces. Also, It’s great for those looking to balance a dark guitar. You’ll find that this pickup stays clean, while still having a fat, beefy midrange and thickness commonly found with P90 pickups.

Even though we are calling this pickup a P90, it’s not quite a P90. P90s are known for a snarly midrange and a stiffer top end. The Alnico Noiseless P90 is softer, cleaner, and has that ‘sparkle’ that you’re familiar with! This pickup is available in all our Soapbar and Dogear versions.

Features:

  • Alnico Rods for a Fender-type sparkle
  • Soapbar / Dogear construction
  • Hum-free design for completely noiseless operation
  • 49.5mm Standard Spacing, with an option for 52mm Bridges (Black & Cream Soapbar only)
  • Wound with USA-Made 42 Gauge SPN Wire
  • Backed by our 10 Year Warranty against manufacturing defects
  • Wax Potted to prevent microphonics and corrosion
  • 30-day Risk-Free exchange policy

Sound

The Alnico Noiseless P-90 will sound like a regular P90, but with a familiar Fender sparkle on the top-end. Clean and articulate when playing without distortion. You’ll find that the nuances of your playing will come out as this pickup “breathes” more than it’s compressed P90 counterpart. With distortion, you’ll find a smooth, late breakup with a familiar Fender Strat-type tone. Expect a clear pick attack and a warmer midrange.

This midrange of this pickup is pronounced as well. You’ll find that the Alnico Noiseless P90 will still sound fat and beefy!

Are you looking for more of a traditional P90 tone? You won’t find that here. This model features a more “Fender” quality to it. If you’re looking for a traditional P90 tone, check out our P90 and Hum Cancelling P90!

Hello friends, I just got a Guild T50 slim with a P90 pickup of the dog ear type on the neck position. Of course, there is a lot of hum. Will the Lindy Fralin hum cancelling dog ear fit? the distance between the mounting screws is 97 mm and the hight of the pickup is 12 mm. Thanks for your reply and kind regards.

Hey Roberto, yes, our pickup should fit fine. I'm measuring 97mm from mounting hole to mounting hole, and our plastic covers are 6mm high. You should have a shim included that would work with our pickup. If you needed another one, the correct size would be the 0.225" shim we offer.

  2. Hi. I have a tele loaded with your stock set. I'm wondering if a hum cancelling p90 Alnico can be swapped in the neck without too much issue (other than the routing, of course). Do I need to be thinking about new pots? Is there a big output difference that I should be aware of? Will the middle position be usable? I see that you recommend pairing those p90s with a higher output tele bridge pickup, hence the question. I saw an instagram post from J... Read more

Hey Josh, the Hum Cancelling P90 with Alnico Rods sounds best on a 500K pot, and is significantly more output than the Stock Tele. That said, I'd think a Twangmaster (Stock Output) is your ideal choice as it's ideal on 250K Pots and will balance better. The tone of the two pickups is very similar.

  4. Greetings. I'm planning on switching out the single (neck) pickup in a thinline ES-125 clone with a hum-cancelling P90, intending to play bebop with it. I generally prefer the softer output of an Alnico pickup [ https://www.fralinpickups.com/product/hum-cancelling-p-90-alnico-rods/ ] and roll off the top end for a jazzy tone, but would the other (neodymium) hum-cancelling dogear P90 [ https://www.fralinpickups.com/product/p90-hum-cancelling/ ] be... Hey Allan, personally, I prefer the Neodymium Hum Cancelling P90 over the Alnico for Jazz. It offers a rounder tone on the treble strings and a warmer midrange. The Alnico sounds more like an overwound Strat pickup, and while it sounds great, is to my ears, not ideal for jazz. That said, if you go with the Alnico model, the 250K pots will warm it up - not in a bad way.

  6. I'm considering the HUM-CANCELLING P90 WITH ALNICO RODS for the neck position on a tele style guitar. Which of your tele bridge pickups would you recommend pairing it with for the best volume and tonal balance?

Hey Daniel, I'd recommend going with our High Output Tele or our Blues Output Split Blade Tele.

  8. It looks like the hum cancelling P90 with alnico rods is set up for a plain G, i.e. the G pole-piece is lower than the D. Can the pickup be set up for a wound G, for a jazz player with heavier strings? The G pole-piece would have to be highest of all. Also, is it possible to adjust pole-piece height at all? Thank you for your consideration.

Hey Micheal, thanks for your question. We can make both the D and G strings the same height - in my experience, that balances out the G string on wound string sets. If you'd like to order that, simply use the "notes" field on the checkout screen to request it - we'll make it to order.

    As Good as Their Reputation
Fralin pickups are widely respected, and as I have found out, for good reason. The stock P90 pickups in my Eastman Airline Mercury were noisy, weak on the high end and a bit mushy on the low end. My new Fralin Alnico P90s are completely quiet and have much more defined lows and high mids. My Airline Mercury is a new instrument and I have new inspiration.

i bought a mustang p90 earlier this year. it was kind of an impulse buy, I’ve always wanted a p90 equipped guitar and the short scale seemed fun and different. I’ve had the most difficult time trying like/love this guitar. Anyway i was able to address issues with tuning stability, finding the string gauges that work for me and on to addressing my biggest issue, i stock bridge p90. I am a bridge pickup guy 100% of the time. I was really intrigued with the alnico rod p90s. I am more accustomed to the “fender like” single coil tone. my biggest complaint with the stock bridge p90 was the lack of note definition and difficulty taming the wild high end. i think its probably more common to put an alnico rod in the neck with the traditional p90 in the bridge but i am super happy with my decision to opt for the alnico rod bridge. I just got back from visiting my friends/ex-bandmates in arkansas. this was the first time id played the new guitar/pickup super loud in a band setting and i felt like my guitar was possessing me with with the holy spirit or something. lol. the harmonics, tone, touch sensitivity, i was blown away! sounded amazing live and recorded. the alnico rod hum-cancelling p90 does what its says it does. it turned a guitar i was struggling to like into my favorite guitar. Thanks Lindy!

    Perfection
I installed a pair of these in a telecaster build I recently completed and couldn’t be happier with the choice. The neck position, which I constantly struggle with due to lack of clarity and definition, has become a favorite now. This pickup gives amazing clarity and top end in that position. The bridge is a cross between a great P90 with the high end ‘airy-ness’ of a good single-coil tele pickup, and is perfect for my application. I’m really thrilled with the outcome of this build and a significant reason is these pickups. I can’t recommend them enough. Quiet, responsive, and sound great with the volume knob rolled back a bit. I can’t imagine how they could be improved, honestly.

Fantastic. One of the best pickups I’ve ever played. A totally convincing single coil P90 sound from a hum cancelling pickup. Would highly recommend!

  7. Garrick Roberts (The Boomtown Rats)

At last! I’ve been trying to find a P-90-style neck pickup to match the 10% overwound Firebird bridge pickup in my black 1980 Les Paul Deluxe (my tribute to Neil Young) and had already tried two underwound single-coil P-90s, both of which sounded muddy and too strong, compared to the Firebird pickup. In the end, I gave in and asked for your advice and you recommended the hum-cancelling P-90 with alnico rods with 10% underwind, which fits in a standard P-90 cover. I really like the clean look of it without the pole-adjustment screws and the sound of it is a perfect match for the Firebird bridge pickup. It’s got a beautiful clear top end, which I couldn’t get from the single-coil P-90s I tried.
Lindy Fralin pickups are the business and your customer service is second to none. You’ve helped me put new life into my guitar. Thank you from a very happy customer.

I just wanted to personally thank you for doing what you do. I’m a lap steel player from Massachusetts and recently purchased a Quiet P-90 with Alnico Rod magnets. This is by far the best pickup I have ever had in this guitar. The tone is inspirational, need I say more?

Thanks Again, God Bless and be safe
