Sound
There are a few ways to cancel out the hum in a pickup. Some manufacturers feature a “stacked” coil design, which we believe leads to a lifeless and dull tone that lacks character. Lindy’s Hum Cancelling P90 features a Side-by-side coil design that is not stacked and attains a more accurate P90 tone that actually sounds like a P90.
Expect a vintage-voiced P90 tone, with a slightly thicker midrange and rounder highs. This pickup will undoubtedly push your amp hard and provide that snarly midrange and top-end “bark” we have come to expect from a P90. Suitable for many music styles, this pickup can scream and clean up nicely for jazz or blues.
Going even further, you can customize your tone by selecting Overwound and Underwound options. By overwinding a pickup, the tone gets thicker, darker, and dirtier. By underwinding a pickup, the pickup gets clearer and more articulate.
Speaking of versatility, are you looking for a jazzier tone? We can use Alnico 6 Magnets to taper the highs even more and offer you a softer sound. Are you searching for a cleaner and more Fender sparkle? Check out our Alnico Rod Version that features Alnico Rods for a Fender-type sparkle.
Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control.
Listen to our friend Mike Hermans play our Hum Cancelling P90, only in a soapbar format.
Hum-Cancelling P90s consists of 100% USA-Made parts, including a precision injection mold, USA-Made Steel Screws, and Neodymium magnets. We use aggressive USA-Made Neodymium magnets to make this model scream. Each bobbin is carefully inspected and cleaned before winding.
We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time, using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique, which gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to prevent microphonics and preserve the pickup for years to come.

Hey Guillermo, you need the following options:
- Type: Short Dogear
- Cover color of choice
- Lead Type: Gibson Braided Lead
You shouldn't need to modify any other parts of the guitar to make these work. They will be drop-in replacements. That said, check our measurements of our new pickups against your old pickups - they will certainly be different.

Hey Jim, if you select "Short Dogear", you'll have the slanted shorter dogear cover.

Hey Noah, if you have the Soapbar mounting ring on your Mini Humbucker, our soapbar will fit just fine - it's a standard Gibson-sized Soapbar.

Q How would I match a bridge tele pickup with a hum canceling p90 if the ohm readings are so high?A
Hey Evan, don't use the Ohm Readings on this pickup as it's a unique design and therefore, ohm readings are useless. I recommend either our High Output Tele or our Blues Output Split Blade

Hey Bob, if your pickups are too bright on 500K, we recommend a 300K to darken it up a bit. Then, we can recommend 0.047mfd as a cap value to provide even more of a sweep.

Got these originally to upgrade a Noventa Jazzmaster – two 5% underwounds for neck and middle spots, and one stocker to go in the bridge spot. Great sound! Better than the guitar, actually!
Ended up finding a beautiful used PRS Custom 22 with triple P90 config and transplanted them there. Absolute heaven! Fat and full without being tubby, and bark like a junkyard dog when you dig in! The “notch” sounds are like the fattest Strat you ever heard – plenty if detail and “cluck”, but with just the right mid punch.
I absolutely love these hum-cancelling p90 pickups. I put them in my Fender Blacktop 90 Jaguar and fell in love immediately. The tone is very similar to what came stock on my Fender but maybe a hair less output, much finer detail/clarity as well as no hum, as advertised.
I’ve always been a huge fan of P90 pickups but in the projects I play in I use a lot of heavily distorted tones. My previous stock pickups in the Fender sounded pretty good but in between playing notes the hum was unbearable and unusable in a studio or live situation. I’m so happy to have these new Fralin hum-cancelling pickups. They’re a game changer.
I purchased the standard output pickups for both bridge and neck. I’m really curious how the 5% overwound for the bridge position would have sounded since I like that added grit. I was going back and forth before purchasing but ultimately went with the standard.
The hum bucking works but there is no breakup. It’s not what I thought I was getting. My mistake.
Hey Kim, I see you ordered the -5% Bridge, which is cleaner and clearer than the stock or the +5%. Would you like to exchange it for a stronger output? We’d be happy to turn it around quickly. If so, please contact us at “[email protected]”.
I’ve installed a set of Lindy Fralin Hum Cancelling P90 on my Gibson Les Paul P90.
The Bridge PU is fantastic, but I find the Neck PU very very dark.
The Neck PU would be a great Jazz PU, all mellow and soft, but as is, it doesn’t bring the nice round tone punchy tone of the standard Gibson “P90 SR 860-13005-L” pickup that was originally on the guitar.
I consider buying another Bridge PU in 50mm pole spacing to install as a Neck PU to compensate that problem, and anyways, I always have a tone pot and a volume put to “tame” and adjust a Neck PU if it’s a bit too bright and loud, but there is no way to do anything when the PU is just too dark.
Unfortunately there is no distributor in Europe for single Hum Cancelling P-90 pickups, and with the shipment and the import taxes, that will bump up the price to nearly 250$ which make my pickup set a crazy expensive upgrade for my Les Paul P90.
I think that this set should be redesigned for a more homogenous balanced in tone and output, anyways it’s the pickup placement (neck or bridge) which will determine the biggest part of the tone.
I absolutely LOVE my no hum P90’s!! I ordered a full set with the neck being a standard wind and the bridge with the +5% wind. I put them in my 57 custom shop reissue and they are absolutely perfect!! The extra grind on the +5 is exactly what I wanted, without it being overbearing. Tone for days and the whole point being NO HUM. Completely quiet! There are so many tones in these pickups just by riding your volume control, as well as the out of phase tones in the middle position. It’s a joy to keep finding useable and truly fantastic tones with each move of the volume dial!!! I cannot recommend these enough as they have become my absolute go to P90 pickup!!
I put these in my Gretsch 5627T. Tons of reviews. Didn’t see any Gretsch replacements reviews so… My stock Gretsch P90s sounded really good. I almost didn’t wanna replace them. I’m Ssssoooo glad I did. Soooo amazing!!!!! Unreal amazing!!! Do it!!!!!! I play classic rock, punk, alternative, jazz….
( I ordered these through my local music store when they mentioned they were a Fralin dealer ).
Hum-Cancelling P90
What a nice surprise. I play a lot of jazz and usually use guitars with humbuckers. But, when an F-hole guitar was gifted to me with one P-90, my first thought was to replace it with a humbucker. But, It was recommended to me by the guy who does all the work on my guitars to put a hum-canceling P-90 on it. This would be consistent the style of the guitar. I did some research and found this hum-canceling P-90 made by Fralin and the reviews all looked good. I took a chance and I am totally delighted. It has a very sweet sound, perfect for jazz, yet I can get down and dirty with it when I need to without any extra effects. The best way I can describe it is that it is like a hybrid between a P-90 and a humbucker. If you play jazz you should try this pick up!
When I ordered my 5% overwound P90s, I knew they would be great. However when I received them, installed them in my TMG Scarlett Nigel Hendroff Signature, plugged it in, and hit the first chord, the only word that describes the level of Greatness is Magic. Pure Magic. Completely changed the tone pallet of the guitar, and instantly improved it all around. These aren’t the only Fralin pickups I have, and they certainly won’t be the last. Thanks so much.
In one word, amazing. Full and sweet never barky. Would highly recommend them
Awesome pick-ups. I just replaced my Les Paul pick-ups with the hum-cancelling P90’s & it’s like night & day compared to the old ones. Lindy’s pick-ups are so quiet & the tone to my ears is exquisite. I also noticed more character in the 3 different pick-up combinations. Lindy also helped me out on the phone a few times when I wasn’t clear on something. Great product & excellent service.
