Split Blade For Mustang FEATURES:

  • Single-Coil tone, with no Hum
  • Fantastic string articulation, dynamics, and enhanced detail
  • Cloth leads for easy installation (installs like a regular Mustang pickup)
  • Overlapping pole pieces for even volume across all strings: even went bent

Split Blade Mustang Pickups: The revolutionary design in single-coil sound, without the hum. This pickup is built with a 2-coil design using steel blades for the pole piece. Unlike most humbucking pickups, Split Blades are designed with a left and right coil design, offering a truer and more balanced single-coil tone. You can expect a traditional single-coil tone from Split Blades, except with a bit more fatness and warmth. Split Blades are perfect for those who love the tone of their Mustang, but want to rid themselves of the noise.

The Split Blades for Mustang give you 3-Wire Pickups for phase reverse and a Left-Handed Bridge pickup.

Lindy Fralin Split Blade Pickups are unique: they offer a single-coil sound, with no hum, whatsoever. You can expect a fantastic warm, full-bodied tone with incredible string articulation and enhanced detail. Low strings sound clear and articulate, while the plain strings sound thicker than a single-coil, but still sparkle. Also, adjusting the pickup on the Bass and Treble ends really allows the player to fine-tune the pickup to his or her needs.

Split Blade Pickups will not pull the strings out of tune – even if they get close to the strings. When playing with distortion, Split Blade Pickups sound thick and dynamically rich. Chords have a nice compression on them while single note lines have a much larger sonic footprint. Split Blades sound thicker than our Vintage Hots out of the box in our Vintage output option.

Split Blade Outputs

  • What Output do I choose? Good question. Vintage and High Output models sound best with 250K pots. Blues and Super High Outputmodels sound best with 500K pots. Basically, if you have the right pot installed, Vintage and Blues outputs will sound the clearest and most “Fender-y”. Their higher-output counterparts will sound thicker and break up quicker.
  • What Radius do I need?
    • Round Radius: (7.25?-9?)
    • Medium Radius: (9.5?-11?)
    • Flat Radius: (12+” or Compound Radius)
  • How will this pickup differ from a standard Strat pickup? The tone is very similar! Whenever you have two coils in series like a Split Blade, you’re going to lose a bit of that Fender “sparkle”, but we believe these are the closest you can get to the real thing.
  • How far away from the strings does the pickup need to be? Split Blades like to be closer to the strings than a normal Strat pickup. Check out this video here.

Tech Specs

Split Blades for Mustang are wound by hand with 43 Gauge SPN wire, with Ceramic magnets.

Split Blades read a lot lower than most pickups due to them being so efficient. Don’t go by ohm readings – they won’t give you any accurate information.

Aloha: I have a 2021 Mustang American Performer with the stock Yosemite pickups. I shielded all the internet cavities and entire back of pickguard which helped lower background noise in bridge and neck positions, but still too much electromagnetic radiation buzz/hum that is dependent on the position of the actual guitar. It seems 2k-4k in terms of the hum/buzz that is present. The stock Yosemite pickups have RWRP for one of the pickups so the middle switch position with both pickups active is hum cancelling, and this basically removes the noise, but the sound is not so great tonally speaking. Are your split blade mustang pickups also RWRP for one of them, or is that not needed because the pickup themselves are hum cancelling? Thanks! -Charles

      Hey Charles,

They are Hum Cancelling Pickups, so they cancel hum in all positions. Neck and Bridge, plus Middle. Our pickups will certainly solve the issue you are having!

    Love these pickups

Replaced the stock pickups in my early 2007s MIJ Fender 65 reissue – I always thought the original pickups sounded really weak and flat, I generally had always on pedals to balance that out. These pickups sound amazing in comparison, much thicker, higher, clean output. The 3 wire configuration is super interesting as well, allowed me to do some cool phase switching options in my new wiring setup. Would recommend.

    Unique! Terrific pickups!

I got the mustang set of round radius blues split blades for a short-scale Musicmaster ii. The guitar just had a weak strat neck pickup that someone put in years ago, but it also had the routing of a Mustang body. I wanted something that could produce a lot of different sounds and have a similar output as my Jazzmaster. I sent an email asking for a recommendation and they suggested these. Clear bright highs and thick lows, very full and powerful, but still a single coil sound without hum. I also use an out-of-phase switch and a jaguar bright switch on the neck. So many tonal possibilities. Not sure how they compare to traditional mustangs but they sound great.

I settled on the Split Blade pup after seeing the footage of Lindy playing them live in a strat. I figured if the man himself digs his noiseless design then I would invest in one. It sounds dreamy and the aged white pup in my shell-pink Mustang is as beautiful as candy. I must admit as a Virginian I appreciate that the pup was made right here.

    Best Upgrade I’ve ever bought
I recently started overhauling an old fender mustang & looked into noiseless pickups for recording purposes. I settled on a Dimarzio Cruzer and one of Lindys split blades. While the Dimarzio is great I consistently end up switching it off and use this split blade. The tone is crystal clear and chimes, but can also pick up as much dirt as you want when you dig in. I have bought a p90 from Lindy before and am hooked at this point. Amazing investment, great quality, and customer service is an added bonus. Cheers!

    put them in a late 50’s duo-sonic

Got the vintage output pickups and put them in a late 50’s duo-sonic, and they are incredible!! Warm and jangly in the neck, bright but not shrill in the bridge …very reminiscent of what a good early 50’s blackguard Tele would be (a bit darker sounding than later Tele’s )

    Fender ’67 Mustang

Purchased a set of split blades (vintage output) for a Mustang restoration. One of the original pickups was missing, so after doing some research and reading reviews I contacted Lindy. He helped me guide me on the output I was looking for and answered any of my questions. Even though I had already found the wiring diagram on the Fralin site, he still emailed the link to me after I placed the order – which to me was very important because this guitar did not have the original switches installed, so I had not seen how it was originally wired. The pickups came with plenty of lead wire and fit perfectly. Once it was all put back together, I watched Lindy’s video on pickup height adjustment. Once the height was dialed in, the pickups sound great! The pickups have really given life back to an old guitar! Great products, service, and support!

    Glorious and Twangtastic!

I got these pickups to replace the stock pickups that came with my MIJ fender mustang. I bought the guitar online and was disappointed with just how sad the stock pickups were. I decided to get these after a few weeks of debating and finally made the $ plunge. These pickups were way better than I could have imagined!! You really have to hear them in person to hear all the detail, they’re exactly as described. A lot of warmth with thick richness and the kind of twang you want, without the tinny thinness you don’t. They are indeed so very quiet, so much so that I almost forgot to mention it. This company makes great pickups and these split blades are definitely worth the money!

Installed on my mustang and it came alive! Best upgrade ever. Very quiet. I would buy again in a heartbeat! Jam on world, jam on.
