Sound
Warm, rich, full, with no hum. The top end is warm and round; the low end is full, deep, and dynamic. Our Fralin Split ’51 is the perfect pickup for those who want an era-authentic 50’s P-Bass tone with no hum. The extended low end is deep, rich, and full. Alnico 5 Magnets give this pickup optimal tonal balance and output. By adding a second coil, we were able to achieve a completely silent operation, with a hint of fatness added to it.
It starts here: our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. Our Split ’51 P-Bass Pickups consist of USA-Made magnets and wire. Our bobbins are hand-built using local fiberboard and have incredible attention to detail. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. We assemble each pickup one at a time, by hand. This allows us to achieve unbeatable attention to detail. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.

I purchased the Split 51′ P-Bass pickup for my Squier – Classic Vibe 50s Precision bass. As usual received excellent feedback in regard to my specific bass, magnet type, and application from Fralin staff prior to purchase. My guitar tech had no issues with installation (fit right in!). Already gigged with this bass/pickup and a) there’s no interference/hum whatsoever and b) the sound is indeed full classic p-bass. Love it!

What a great sounding pickup. I originally went with a different brand, and a single coil when I built this bass but because of the obnoxious amount of noise it produced I decided to install this Fralin split 51 model. I’m really glad I did, not only because it’s dead silent but the tone is perfect for what I was after. I went with a 5% over wind and it’s perfect.
It shipped out amazingly fast as well.
I’m a small shop building 6-10 guitars and basses per year and will definitely be installing Fralins again in the future. -
Great replacement pickup for my 1951 Relic P Bass. The original buzzed and had some strange overtones. The Fralin is even throughout. Everyone I play with love the sound of this bass. So do I. I opted for standard wind.

Great sounding PU.
Zero Hum, nice overtones and growl.
Amazing pickup. -
I bought a Fender CIJ ’51RI (2003, I think) awhile back and the aftermarket p/up the previous owner dropped in was fine but NOISY. And while I just wanted to solve the noise, this pickup sounds 1000% better. I was considering saving up for a custom shop bass, but now I don’t really feel like I need it!
As an added bonus, this p/up dropped right in with no fuss.

Having a Squier 51 P bass and wanting to change out the rather harsh stock pick up I read up on all the reviews here. Many people who had the same 51′ Squier bass seemed to recommend the stock stagger with a 5% overwind so I figured all those happy people with the same bass I have couldn’t be wrong so went with that, well big mistake. I called Lindy and explained that my A string was overbearing even with the pickup height adjusted. Also there was a lack of articulation on the high end. I almost actually preferred the old stock pickup I had just removed. By the way, I had also changed out my pots to 920D Custom Shop, a real pain to install having to drill through a metal plate to get the new knob shafts to fit, but got it done successfully. Lindy spent a good deal of time with me on the phone and it became clear that he wanted to get the right pickup for my needs. I ended up with a totally flat stagger all the way across and a normal wind instead of 5% overwind. There was also a hybrid stagger option Lindy thought would work but he had a flat stagger with normal wind all wired up and ready to ship that someone had apparently ordered but never paid for so I went that way. Before talking to Lindy I thought I might even try a 2% to 5% underwind but Lindy thought the normal wind would likely already have plenty of high end articulation I wanted. He was right on target, the new pickup has everything I was looking for, the balance throughout the strings is now just perfect, no more overbearing A string and the articulation is just gorgeous! Also the E string now has some authority it was missing with the stock Squire pickup and no more harshness. I had a bit of trouble getting the new pickup to fit into the vacant cavity as it was slightly larger than the cut out hole so called Lindy again. He said it was safe to file down the edges to get it to fit as long as I didn’t touch any of the very fine wires, he really stressed this point. Got it in, wired it up and I couldn’t be more happy. Thanks Lindy for taking the time to discuss my situation. If you have a Squire 51 P bass I highly recommend going this same route.

Hats off to everyone at Fralin who made my 51 split coil p bass pickup. I went stock thanks to Jon’s advice and it’s turned my Squier classic vibe p bass into a beast. The sound is amazing. Thanks guys!
-
Amazing pickup and fantastic service. Initially when I got it I had some issues with the stagger of the magnets, after talking with Lindy on the phone we diagnosed the issue and he built me a custom-spec one for no added cost. The new pickup is exactly what I was looking for and completely eliminates that annoying 60-cycle hum of the tele bass. Really versatile pickup- from strong low end, punchy mids, to crisp highs it added some character to my sting signature 51-P.
-
Amazing. I got the 5% overwound. Even though it’s a split coil, it is noticeably different than the standard split coil pickup on ‘57 and later P basses. It’s a little more focused sounding and not as thick. It has thump when I need it but also brightness and growl for days. I love it.

This thing breathed new life into my MIJ Paisley ‘51 P Bass. Direct swap, looks great and sounds good and meaty. It works well at different pickup heights too, giving you some options for tone adjustments.

Squire Precision Bass upgrade
Just got back my Squire Precision Bass (Indonesia) from my Luther. With new Fralin ‘51 P-Bass pickup upgrade +5% with new Hipshot KickAss 4 bridge and 920D Custom PB wiring harness. Totally new Bass. Pickup sounds great, no more hiss. Thanks for a great product.

Swapped the original single coil pickup in my 20 year-old CIJ ‘51 RI P-Bass with a Lindy Fralin STOCK pickup. Results are exactly what I was looking for. The mids warmed up, and bigger bottom end – old school perfection!! I even kept my round wounds on the bass and it sounds great! This is my second set of bass pickups purchased from Fralin (other is Jazz Bass pickups), and both are fantastic!!

This pickup is a major upgrade!
I installed this pickup in a Fender Tele Bass project which also has a compact active two-band EQ. I ordered the 5 percent overwound with the hybrid staggered pole pieces. The bass now has a nice rich and articulate tone, also it has a better balance than my older pickup. Definitely picking up more of the low string now.

Perfect fit. Fantastic sound. Dropped right in on my ‘51 P reissue. Fender pickup is great but very very historically accurate including the hum. Freakin solved this problem and then some!
-
The best in the business! Having the good fortune to use Fralin pick ups makes any bass I have them on better and more dynamic. Total pro shop
-
Big improvement! I put this pickup in a Bronco bass. Sounds great and looks cool.

Top notch service for top notch pruduct
I got my 51 split pbass pickup a bit before Christmas, wonderful pickup, wonderful craftsmanship, wonderful sound, but… the A string sounded louder than the others. The magnet was higher than the other (called stock stagger) . I explained my « hiccup » with the A string by email. Got a fast response by Tyler, that promptly offered me another pickup (hybrid stagger). A few emails later, the new pickup came in. Same great craftsmanship, but after a few minutes of soldering iron, WOW!!!
The sound was back but now string to string balance in perfect… No noise, pure pbass sound, wonderful pickup. Totally delighted with my experience with Lindy Fralin pickups. -
Yupe! Bullseye

Amazing upgrade
Combine the Fralin ’51 P-Bass pickup with a Babicz bridge and Audere bass pre, and this Fender “51 P bass is stunning! Tone for days! The stock pickup was “uneven” across the strings, this pickup solved that problem in buckets. -
51 PBass pickup 10% overwind
Wonderful pickup. Way smoother than other makers. Lindy made me a left handed pickup with the overwind at no additional charge. The only maker I have found that treats lefties fairly! I will order again.
