Sound
Fralin Jazz Bass Pickups offer a wide tonal range. They are wound to 60’s Specifications, which give them more output and balance. Expect a sweeter tone, with a warm midrange. Also, you’ll hear top-end sparkle and clarity. Nuances will come to life as you notice increased presence. They will break up late and stay clean longer.
Are you looking for a Hum Cancelling Jazz Bass pickup that actually sounds like a Jazz Bass? Check out our Split Jazz!
Our Pickups are dynamic – they’ll get punchy if you dig into them. They’ll have top-end spank when you slap them. You’ll also notice they’ll stay soft and dynamic when you play light. Finally, these Jazz Bass Pickups are for those who are not happy with the tone from stock pickups. These tend to be sweeter-sounding, not aggressive. You’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch earlier.
We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:
- For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and fewer highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- For an even thicker tone than the +5%, you can opt for +10%. This is perfect for anyone looking for an aggressively strong midrange and dark tone. Perfect for balancing out a bright sounding bass.
- If you’re looking for 70’s Jazz Bass tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

When I first acquired my 1962 Fender Jazz Bass (slab board) it had active pickups installed as the original pickups were long gone. I swapped those out for a set from another respected manufacturer and it was much better, however, something was still “missing”. I finally settled on a set of Lindy Fralin Jazz Bass Pickups 5% overwound and now this bass sounds absolutely beautiful. I’ve used it on a bunch of gigs, and I recently used it on a session. The tone was perfect! To my ears it sounds like John Paul Jones’ tone on “The Lemon Song” from Led Zeppelin II. Thank you Lindy Fralin and the staff at Fralin Pickups for making such wonderful pickups.

Hello! I have a question: if I want to have a sound of 70, would I have to put 5% underwind?
Thank you!-
Hey Facundo,
Yes – please specify -5% for the 70’s Jazz Bass Sound.

Merci beaucoup

I Purchased the jazz bass +5 over wind pick up set and installed them on my MIJ GEDDY LEE jazz bass. I quickly noticed a great tone from the E and A strings but the D and G strings had a big reduction in volume. I tried everything to even out the volume across the strings( adjust pickup height, change strings-types of strings different amps EVERYTHING IMAGINABLE I even put the stock pick ups back on And got even volume across E and A to D and G) still a volume issue across all strings. I called lindy and sent them back to be checked. They were sent back to me with the same problem. I don’t know if it’s my bass with those pickups but still have noticeable un even volume difference. Lindy was really nice with great customer service but unfortunately I can’t use the pick ups. I’m gonna try out the dimarzio model j pickups.
They need a rating so to be honest I’ll give 5 stars for customer service but 2 stars for the pick up situation.

Adrian,
We’re so sorry that you had this issue – it seems very strange, as when we got them back, we re-magnetized them for good measure. Please feel free to send them back to us for a full refund. We don’t want you to be stuck with them.

These things are incredible. The title says it all. These pickups are insanely good. Incredible tone, one of the best I’ve ever heard.

New Fralin pickups, with new electronics, turned my MIJ Jazz Bass into a remarkable tone monster! I’ve always been impressed with the General fit and finish of the MIJ fenders, but these Fralin pick-ups put this instrument in the big leagues. Personal advice from Lindy himself when I dialed up the company was a pure bonus. Another great experience with Fralin.

Great tone & vibe! These pickups can do it: from Marcus Miller to John Paul Jones and anywhere in between. Can’t wait to try the -5% winding!

Just what I needed
I love my Fralin Jazz Bass pickups. They have a full range with plenty of bottom end while retaining some bite. I went with the 5% overwind since my bass is dropped one full step. Nice rumble when I hit the low notes and beautiful clarity that cuts through on the mid-range runs. Super happy with these pickups. I’m glad they have an option for white to match my pickguard. The white covers give it a classy look while the big sound slaps you in the face. -
Doesn’t Get Any Better’n This
Two Jazz basses, one with stock and one with 10% overwind. This gets the PUREST tone to the other end of the instrument cable, where I can do anything I want with it—that is usually a slightly bassy but otherwise unmodified tone. Haven’t found a song yet that I can’t get exactly what’s just right. Without the Fralin Jazz pickups, I’d still be bumping around in the foggy bottom. Thanks!! -
I installed the stock wind single coils on my AM Pro Jazz. TOP NOTCH! I finally found my tone.
Blown away beyond my expectations. My passive Jazz sounds like its active with both coils wide open.
Neck p/u mimics a 70’s PBass with EQ’ing.
I will purchase again in the future.Thank you all @ Lindy Fralin!

Speaking from 30+ years experience, these pickups made my MIM jazz bass sound better than ever before! Not just a little better, leaps and bounds! The clarity from high to low is unparalleled. My only regret is not installing them sooner. I went with the stock output bridge & neck, and they are well worth every penny!

I love the Jazz Bass pickups! Puts my bass sound on a whole new level.

Fralin jazz bass pickups
Incredible product, helpful staff, and great customer service. Thank you for making it a positive experience -
Really impressed with the clarity and tonal definition of the pickup set. I put them in my working project ’97 MIM jazz bass, and now its so much more enjoyable to play! The previous stock neck pickup and an old SD split coil were not really the most inspiring sounds. Now I think I’ve got a tone to match the newer US jazz basses. Note: with this older model of MIM jazz bass, the bridge p/u slot will have to be widened by about 3/16″. I used a sharp chisel and some course sandpaper, and then the slot was ready to go.

Always wanted to upgrade pickups in my MEX Fenders, I find the bass a little loose and seemed to be difficult to get the right sound in a band mix with the stock ones. So when I heard some Fralins, they were top of my list.
With everything full, they’re clear and nicely full sounding. So much so, my amp EQ has gone more flat, rather than the extreme EQing I used to use. I find myself playing higher up the neck – can’t get enough of the crisp highs they give.
Customer service really is as good as most have commented! Sent an email regarding the sound I like and got a quick reply with a suggestion and sent much quicker than expected.
Wouldn’t be surprised to have a P bass order in soon.

I have to say this was the single best investment I’ve ever made. My 89 Jazz Bass had lower output on the A&D strings. After purchasing the over wound raised middle pole pickups, I am blown away. Even other band mates noticed the difference immediately. The sound has a smooth rich thump on the bottom, with a clean well-defined note. Great definition. The lower output on the A&D strings was gone. The pickups fit both the pick guard and the body without any modification. Their sales /customer service was spot on. Thanks!

Awesome!
I bought the 5% overwound set for my Classic Series 60s Jazz Lacquer, and they are amazing! They really nail that pre-CBS Jazz tone. I was looking for that early John Paul Jones sound, and these hit the nail on the head. -
I have a 75 Reissue made in Japan Fender Jazz. It seemed a bit bright and thin to my ears so I got a +5% set. These are fantastic it gives the exact hollow, reedy tone I was hoping for without mud, or darkness.

Great Jazz PUs
Great, thick vintage tone. Not shy on low end at all. I got the 5% overwind and they are tasty. -
I installed these (5% overwound) in my Classic Series 60s J Lacquer. They are great! The overwind really balanced out the brightness of the Pau Ferro board, and the tone is incredible. I was looking for a JPJ type of sound and these nail it.
