Prewired Jazz Bass Harness

After emailing Fralin to ask some questions, I ordered the prewired jazz bass harness with the control plate, the 250K ohm pots, and the 0.02mfd Fralin Mustard Cap. I installed it in a Fender Player II jazz bass which I’d already been modding. From the time I placed the order, it took about a week to get to me even with a holiday while it was in transit. Installation was super easy, and I really do notice a difference in the way this bass sounds with this harness compared with what it came with. The resistance of the knobs is perfect for me. I’m very glad I bought this item. Shout out to Zach Hudgins for answering my questions and helping me with the order. I intend to order from Fralin again!

The prewired control plate came beautifully soldered with placeholder leads in place and well labeled, making install a breeze. The pickup blend positions are more useful and versatile than stock as is the tone control. A simple upgrade that paired really well with the Fralin 5% overwound split coil jazz pickups. Customer service here is amazing. Highly recommend product and service.

This review is for prewired Jazz Bass control plate and Jazz Bass pickups, which I had purchased from Thomann prior to the plate. Both products went into my Geddy Lee signature Jazz, bought new in 2007. The original pickups were good, but a bit muddy, so this year (2024) I searched for something different. After reviewing what internet had to say and watching Lindy’s interviews, I decided on Lindy Fralin pickups.
An excellent choice it was. Feeling the sound could possibly still be improved, I ordered the control plate straight from the source.
It has taken the sound of my Jazz in my ears to another level of clarity, which is what I was after.

I almost equally appreciate the support LF Pickups provide, both via email and website articles – one of those stopped me in time from possibly degaussing my new pickups with the transformer soldering gun.

I highly recommend both products, which were in their standard Fender versions.

Top notch! First class components, beautifully made, packaged and delivered. Slotted right into my MIJ Jazz Bass, and does exactly what it says on the tin. Upgraded jack is nice and firm. VERY hard to get cord plug in and out. I have a control plate from you before and it works fine. This one does not well at all.

The control panel and the choice of controls is the best. I put together a bass guitar kit, with Fender neck and body and this is the first Jazz bass I’ve owned and I love it. No noise whatsoever. Thank you Fralin.

Blown away. The only thing I can say is I will be purchasing some more Fralin Products. Installed with Split Jazz Pickups in a 16′ Fender Am Pro, it’s better than a new bass. Best review I can give is – will buy more Fralin products without a doubt.

Excellent quality and craftsmanship!
The control plate installed on my new Fender CS 60’s Jazz bass with no issues. Sounds great and seems quieter than the original control plate.

I purchased the J/B control unit. I ordered 250k pots at first but realized later I wanted 500k. The folks over at Fralin where there to help and changed my order appropriately. Shipping was slotted for 10-14 days but was here much sooner then that. On to the quality, quality seems top notch. The wires runs were very clean and the solder joints were also clean and they did no skimp on solder. The pot’s perform as expected and sound very nice. Over all a great experience and super product.

Very solid component. The ‘Pure Tone’ jack is more snug than the one on my stock Fender Jazz plate, and the knobs have the right amount of resistance. I had this paired with Fralin’s Split Jazz pickups and the tone really shines. Love the made-in-the-USA quality too.

I ordered control plate with the Pure Tone Output Jack upgrade. Everything seems really well made and functions perfectly. I have to deduct 1 star for the following reason. The plate did not line-up with the pickguard on my older Squier (bought years ago second-hand, date of manufacture unknown) Jazz bass. Since this is advertised as a no-return item, we ended up taking everything off the Fralin, machining out my old plate (which was metric) to accept standard specs of the Fralin and mounting everything on the old plate. So I now have a brand new plate that is of no use. No biggie and I love Fralin gear (I have the split humbuckers on my Japanese Strat and they are fantastic! ) but I think you should know about this issue of fit FYI.

Nice addition to a cheap bass

I got this to replace the original controls which were acting a little flaky and it was a perfect fit, looked great, and was easy to wire in. There was nothing to complain about here.

Excellent

This is an excellent vintage wired plate. I purchased it when I bought some upgraded Jazz pickups for a USA Geddy Lee because I wanted to keep the original parts intact in case I reverted the mod. Now that I have been using this along with a new set of Fralin Jazz Split Coil P/U’s (5% overwind on the neck), I have to say WOW. Just plain WOW. Fralin is the go-to brand for pickups. Took me a few years to finally pull the trigger on my first set, but I’ve since upgraded my PJ with a set as well. Since this review is specifically supposed to be for the Prewired Jazz Control Plate, a few comments- First it fits perfectly, looks original and is tidy. The wiring is clean, professional solder joints, and super (I mean SUPER) easy to install. The pigtails for soldering the pickups are well marked with plenty of “tail left in the pig” to facilitate easy soldering. Highly recommend this product. Cannot ever go wrong with Lindy’s products, as I am finding out. And as far as the tone goes- just stand by because it is absolutely exactly what the doctor ordered. Thanks, guys! John
