This installation guide covers the standard Jazz Bass Wiring Harness, with Two Volumes, Master Tone and Output Jack. If you ordered the Harness with Concentric Pots, that installation guide is located here.

Tools Needed

  • Soldering Iron and Solder (we use Kester 60/40)
  • Screwdriver (for removing and installing control plate)
  • 1/2″ Hex Nut Driver (For removal or installation of the pots, if you are transferring the harness to an existing control plate.

Installation

Installation is very simple and should only take a few minutes.

  • Remove your existing harness by unscrewing the three screws on the control plate
  • Unsolder each pickup Hot wire and Ground, label them if need be
  • If you purchased the Harness without the control plate and knobs, transfer your existing control plate and knobs using a 1/2″ hex nut driver to unbolt the pots from the harness and transfer them to the existing control plate.
  • Resolder the pickup’s leads following these instructions:

Tip

We recommend Pre-tinning your pickup’s wires before soldering. Pre-tinning involves pushing back the cloth insulation and coating the lead with a thin coat of solder before soldering. This ensures a fool-proof installation.
