Pickup Rewinding and Repair

Fralin Pickups offers high quality rewinding and repair service for vintage pickups. Whenever possible, coils are repaired rather than rewound. If a rewind is necessary, care is taken to restore the original sound as well as appearance of the pickup.

Note: It is important to write a brief letter including such information as:

  • Type of pickup
  • Position of pickup (neck, bridge or middle)
  • Reuse or Replace the leads
  • How the pickup should be wound: Stock, Hotter, or Cleaner

(On all pickups, more turns of wire will give more midrange but less high end. Less wire will “open up” the midrange and give more high end. See Choosing a Pickup for more information.)

Note: If more than one pickup is sent, please list them all with the above information. Please ship to us by some secure method and give us 4-6 weeks to finish the work. Try to avoid calling to check the status of your rewinds as we are doing the work as fast as we can.

Note: Sorry, we cannot work on pickups that are epoxied into their covers. We resist working on Vox or Hagstroms, or any pickup that cannot be removed from its cover without damage. Burns of London and some other bobbin-less coils require us to fabricate a bobbin and are very expensive.

PAYMENT:
Include payment by money order or bank check with your pickups. Shipping is $12 per order for domestic standard two-day delivery, and $20-$45 international.

REWIND PRICES (does NOT include $12 shipping fee): top

  • Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacher, Gretsch and Guild reusable bobbins: $50 per coil
  • Mosrite, Hofner, some DeArmands, and Fender String-through-steel (if all parts reusable): $60 per coil
  • DeArmand Dynasonic (Gretsch) and Dan Electros: $75 per coil
  • Fabricated paper bobbins: $60-$100 (based on $50.00 per hour)
