Sound

There are a few ways to cancel out the hum in a pickup. Some manufacturers feature a “stacked” coil design, which we believe leads to a lifeless and dull tone that lacks character. Lindy’s Hum Cancelling P90 features a Side-by-side coil design that is not stacked and attains a more accurate P90 tone that actually sounds like a P90.

Expect a vintage-voiced P90 tone, with a slightly thicker midrange and rounder highs. This pickup will undoubtedly push your amp hard and provide that snarly midrange and top-end “bark” we have come to expect from a P90. Suitable for many music styles, this pickup can scream and clean up nicely for jazz or blues.

Going even further, you can customize your tone by selecting Overwound and Underwound options. By overwinding a pickup, the tone gets thicker, darker, and dirtier. By underwinding a pickup, the pickup gets clearer and more articulate.

Speaking of versatility, are you looking for a jazzier tone? We can use Alnico 6 Magnets to taper the highs even more and offer you a softer sound. Are you searching for a cleaner and more Fender sparkle? Check out our Alnico Rod Version that features Alnico Rods for a Fender-type sparkle.

Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control.

Hum-Cancelling P90s consists of 100% USA-Made parts, including a precision injection mold, USA-Made Steel Screws, and Neodymium magnets. We use aggressive USA-Made Neodymium magnets to make this model scream. Each bobbin is carefully inspected and cleaned before winding.

We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time, using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique, which gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to prevent microphonics and preserve the pickup for years to come.

    Live up to the name!

I love my new Fralin hum-cancelling P90s. They are as advertised and will not disappoint. I would not hesitate for a moment to put these in your guitar. Lindy Fralin has been able to do this for a living, for a long time, for a reason.

    Best P-90 I’ve ever used

Honestly, these pickups blow the stock Gibson’s out of the water. They are hotter, thicker, and much meaner. And on top of that, they still clean up as a good P-90 should. These have made my Gibson SG Classic my secret weapon. Oh, and the raw nickel finish is very unique and beautiful.

  3. David Van Moorlehem

I purchased a Noiseless P-90 with stock output from an international online retailer for an inexpensive classic-inspired P-90 guitar that I recently bought. My reasoning was that the pickup would dramatically improve the sound of this budget guitar, while I saved for a high end version of a classic mahogany set-neck guitar. Additionally I factored in that I would likely install the pickup in the better guitar later. This pickup has transformed the sound of the budget guitar. I agree with the many other reviewers that this pickup is a fantastic noiseless rendition. It has the harmonics, touch sensitivity, dynamic range and above all, the magic tone I associate with classic P-90’s. The voicing is superb. I spent the first two days playing match the tone with classic albums that featured killer P-90 tones. Early Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Slade, Mountain, and Trapeze…this pickup made matching the character of those excellent tones quite easy. Well done Lindy! This pickup absolutely deserves its stellar reputation. And yes it is incredibly quiet!

AMAZING! Hi, My name is Fred Coury. I’m a tv composer in LA. Erik Goresh installed noiseless p-90’s in my gold top Les Paul and I’m blown away. I was afraid that I couldn’t use the guitar on my show as it was so noisy. Once your pickups went in, that guitar instantly became my favorite Les Paul in my collection and has been used on every episode since!
Thanks for making such a great product!!

I have a PRS McCarty, all mahogany (maybe Korina, I’m not sure how to tell the difference). I put a hum cancelling P90 in the bridge spot and a hum cancelling alnico rod P90 in the neck position. The bridge pickup is a bit lower output than the original (Lindy said it would be), but wow I love how they sound. Even besides the hum cancelling part, they really hit the spot. I was concerned about losing the guttural tone that the guitar has, but no worries, these pickups do it justice.

Wonderful pickup, but they’re not 100% “authentic” P90s

… which is fine. Now that I know what they are, I’ll use them when appropriate. My reference comparison is Kinman noiseless P90s. The Fralins are more humbucker sounding. More even, uniform frequency response. More compressed, fewer transients, smoother, creamier. Not as articulate, airy, or “hollow” sounding. They are also SIGNIFICANTLY lower output. That being said, I do like them. But I would choose the Fralins for a rock-oriented sound, not a clean or crunch blues sound where picking dynamics are really important. The Fralins are wonderful and are very focused and tight, but they have a smoothness to them. They aren’t a “rude and nasty” pickup. They have a slightly compressed sound that’s really fat – sort of reminds me of the creamy smoothness of Joe Bonamassa or Warren Hayes, but tighter and more focused. Very nice indeed, but without the extreme articulation and openness of a really authentic vintage sound. But don’t get me wrong. They’re STILL light years better than Duncan offerings for example. This is a very versatile pickup. And a lot of people will like it. I’d say most will. Except if you’re looking for true vintage, I’d choose Kinman by a substantial margin. But if authenticity isn’t important, then these are a great option. They have their own thing going and sound unique to me. And their unique sound is a very good thing to my ears.

  7. Gary White

Great pickups. I couldn’t be happier…I’ve had a lot of trouble with my ’65 Gibson ES-330. When I bought the guitar in 1990 the neck pickup consisted of a Gibson black label humbucker screwed into the nickle dog-ear cover. The bridge was original, but was very quiet and was basically unusable. In ’98 I found a replacement for the neck pickup in a short dog ear. It had a chrome cover that I hated, but it’s what I had to use. I eventually got the same brand to replace the Gibson bridge pickup. The sound was passable I guess, but I was never happy with it. So after many years of barely playing my main guitar I finally found the money to get Fralin replacements. The sound is awesome and I’m finally happy with my guitar. It is finished now, it is in the shape I wanted it in. So very happy with my purchase. Thinking of getting some humbuckers for a Jazz guitar I have. 5 out of 5.

I had noise canceling P90’s put in my thin line Guild Newark Collection (ES-125) single coil guitar. There is NO NOISE!!
They sound fantastic! Thank you ??

    No more noise!

My 2019 Les Paul Jr. is a fantastic guitar but was useless to me in most clubs with bad power due to the p90 hum. This pickup solved that issue for me and the jr. is seeing a ton of stage and studio time. I will be buying more of these for my P90 equipped guitars! Thanks guys!

I really love my new pickup but I was a little disappointed that I got sent a bridge pickup that was meant to be mounted to the pickguard even if I didn’t need that so I had to poke the screws thru the wax and stuff which wasn’t ideal. Sound-wise pickup is awesome!!

Just what I needed! I put this in a Les Paul copy that I really like. It is the third pick up I have tried. The original (bought the guitar used) was some sort of aftermarket, not sure the maker. I put in a Duncan, too much noise. This one did the trick and sounds awesome! Thanks

Put a +%5 overwound bridge and regular neck in my PRS SE 277 Semi-hollow Baritone and was completely blown away by how good the guitar sounds. The clean and dirty tones are just amazing!

  16. Keola Donaghy

I recently built a Gibson LP Double Cutaway using a body from Precision Guitar Works, and a pair of Fralin Noiseless P-90s with RS Guitarworks wiring harness. It took about four months beginning to end, but my Lord, it is the most amazing sounding instrument I’ve ever played. It’s my first P90-equipped guitar, and the sparkle/chime, body and tightness of the tone is beyond belief. I really did not expect the flexibility that this configuration was going to give me – I thought was really going to be just a niche guitar in my toolbox, but now envision so much more. This is my third Fralin installation (I have Pure PAFs in an Ibanez AS73 and Split Blades in my Tele), and have been progressively happier with each install. Mahalo Lindy and crew!!

Quiet as a mouse until you want to drive them and then they growl like a P90 should. These are the 9th set of Fralin pickups I have bought and installed in my new builds. Love each one. Great pickups and great service.
