P-J Set FEATURES:
The Fralin P-J Set includes our Stock P-Bass pickup, and our noiseless and rich Split Jazz Bridge. This set is noiseless in all positions, with a fat and rich tone. Our Split Jazz Bridge has a Left-Right coil design, which sounds better than stacked coils. The Fralin P-J Set gives you more snarl on your bridge and deep lows on your neck.
All of our bass pickups feature hand-built bobbins and hand-wound clarity. Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. This P-J Set consists of local fiberboard and USA-Made Magnets. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.
Features:
- Original Fender specifications, with modern output
- Overwound Noiseless Bridge for noiseless operation across all positions
- USA-made Alnico 5 Magnets for optimal tonal balance and output
- Hand-wound with our “Sectioning” technique for unique, dynamic tone
- Hand-built fiberboard Bobbins for unrivaled quality control
- 10-Year Warranty on manufacturing defects
Sound
The Fralin P-J Set is the best sounding P-J Pickup Set you can buy. Alnico 5 Magnets and our hand-wound coils give this P-J Set an impressive range and articulation. Expect deep, rich lows and a top-end sparkle – all across a warm and fat midrange. The P-Bass pickup has an even balance across highs and lows. The compensated Split Jazz Bridge focuses more on a thicker midrange snarl. The volume is equal across all positions. The Fralin P-J Set will breathe life into your bass by extending its range and dynamics.

P-J Set FAQ's
General FAQs
Here are quick answers to common questions we get:
-
What Ohm Readings does your P-J Set have?
Navigate to our Tech Specs tab for complete Ohm Readings and more useful information.
-
Will this pickup fit my instrument?
Check our "Sizing" tab for the size of the pickup. No Sizing tab? Check under the product image gallery for dimensions.
-
Is your Lead Time of 1 Week accurate?
It really depends on the shop capacity at the moment, and the size of your order. Feel free to give us a call for an accurate lead time. We always try to underpromise and overdeliver.
-
What pickup height do you recommend setting your P-J Sets to?
Our recommended Pickup Height is 1/8" (3.175mm) on the Bass Side and 1/16"( 1.5875mm) on the Treble Side. Measure by holding the corresponding side down at its highest fret and measure from the bottom of the string to the top of the pole piece.
Let me put this in terms we can all understand….
Your current pickups are like buying a 6 pack for ten bucks. My Fralin P/J set is like buying a keg for twenty.
Your window is plain glass, mine is stained glass.
Truly the lazy person’s pickup of choice: Do nothing, sounds great; do something, sounds great; bounce your baby off the neck for a nice slap effect–sounds great! Set everything flat (except volume)–perfect. No matter what you do, there is always a familiar tone waiting there. That familiarity makes “dialing in” a tone so easy. Fact of the matter, you don’t have to dial squat: Do nothing, sounds great.
Many times I’ll come across a tone so sweet I want to bottle it and sell it… except for maybe little too much mid range at the end or whatever. The slightest turn of the tone knob and that sound is gone, but the sweet tone is still there. I’ve even gone so far as to jokingly whack the tone knob to see if just jarring it–not even turning it!–would be enough to do the job. Crazy!
FYI: Swamp ash, maple and rosewood. Same as all ya’ll
Thanks for the awesome review, Dan!
PJ set in Fender Mustang:
I upgraded a Fender Mustang bass so I’d have a fun, short-scale instrument that could be played out for real if need be.
The Fralin PJ set is exactly what I hoped for. The P pickup is deep and powerful, the J cuts well in a pleasant way and doesn’t hum. The pair balances well and delivers warm, vintage flavor usable in modern professional settings. Top notch work as usual; thank you!

Gourmet tone! The P/J pickup combo has an incredibly broad and versatile tonal palette. High output yet very sensitive and nuanced. Full tonal spectrum from vintage to modern. I’ve been able to dial in the right tone no matter what style of music. I’m satisfied far beyond my expectations!
Great individually and even better together! The P & J pickups each deliver a sound that is even better than I expected, and used together, they balance perfectly.
Today I had my first set of Lindy Fralin pickups – the P-J set – installed by my Pro-Tech. Previously my Fender Japan Exclusive Aerodyne sounded lifeless – but these PU’s sound incredibly alive, full, deep – you would swear they are active!!! A dynamic boost in sound quality & tone across both the Precision Pickups & the Jazz pickup w/no noise – just like they advertise! After only playing an hour I’d have to say these pickups are worth every penny – I’m a believer – try these and you will be too! Thank you Lindy! Tim – February 17, 2018
Just had these (with stock wind) installed on my Fender CS Precision. Coupled with a set of Thomastik-Infeld JF344 flatwounds, the sound is just thunderous.
These PUs are simply every bit as good as they claim, highly recommended if you’re going for that no-nonsense old-school thump.
I recently put the P&J pick-ups on a custom Warmoth Precision Bass I just built. These pickups have a tremendous amount of quality versatility, between the split coil Jazz bridge pick up and their classic P bass set you can a variety of great bass tones. The upper register notes are smooth, not so harsh. The P bass tones are sweet!
Stop. Listen. Think. These pickups are the best that’s ever been! I’ve been though two sets of electronics for my Fender Anodyne bass and Franlin pickups are the best. Total tone control. Highs, lows, it doesn’t matter. It’s all there. Within 20 seconds you can dial in the tone you want. Unbelievable! It’s Alive!!!
I scouted Fralin pickups via Youtube demos. I compared many brands as well as standard bass pickups. I felt Fralins had a distinct darkness and warmth while remaining clear-sounding throughout the entire range of the fret board. I decided to pull the trigger on the the P-J combo to replace my standard Fender pickups and what a great decision it was! They are well balanced across all strings, and the over-wound J pickup balances volume with the P pickup much better than the standard set of pickups. The pickups have the darkness, warmth, and clarity I observed in the videos. If you are looking for a very bright sound, these may not be the right direction for you. Personally, I am so excited to have these pickups be part of “my” sound. Thank you, Fralin!
