The High Output Humbucker: Stronger and bigger sounding humbucker without being too dark. Works great with a coil-split, perfect for single notes with high gain. The High Output Humbucker is stronger, beefier, and thicker than our Modern P.A.F.

Sound

Our High Output Humbucker is the thickest and loudest Humbucker we make. It has a very aggressive and dark tone. It’s beefier and more aggressive than our Modern P.A.F. Expect a thick-sounding single-string note that’s quick to break up. Chords will sound full and crunchy with a good amount of soft-clip compression. The High Output Humbucker is best with distortion, especially with single-notes. The grind is thick and smooth, and single notes will sustain and sing. Because this humbucker is so strong, it’s ideal for coil-tapping. This will leave the single-coil pickup strong enough to play well with others. Best used in a bridge position, the High Output Humbucker will sound great and have a warm, round pick attack.

Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. High Output Humbuckers consist of USA-Made bobbins, baseplates, magnets, and wire. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone.

We assemble each pickup one at a time, by hand. This allows us to achieve unbeatable attention to detail. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.

Fralins are popular because they sound great and these are no exception. I was a little surprised how much darker they are from my original pickups but they’re so versatile and wonderful.

I also have a pair of his noiseless p90s and I was shocked how good they sounded. Fralins are my go to from now on. Dude’s a legend.

I’ve had Lindy rewind some pickups in the past and that’s why I decided on these are pickups because of the sound and quality that Fralin Pickups delivers and they’re probably some of the best pickups I’ve ever heard. I have them installed in a ‘Gibson ‘67 Flying V Reissue and it sounds incredible!

These pickups are amazing. I have Custom Shop Gibsons that are Historics and I went with Lindy’s Pure PAFs for those. However, I recently got a Les Paul Axcess Custom that had the stock Gibson pickups and they were not good. I went with the Modern High Output pickups here. These are high output pickups but do not let that fool you. They are still very articulate with great note separation. The neck pickup seems to be dark and full upon first listening to it, but when you get used to how versatile this pickup is, you quickly learn that that fullness is because there is so much definition in these pickups. I have 4 conductor on these and do series/parallel splitting and these pickups handle it so well with basically zero volume drop that it is like have 4 pickups on this guitar. The bridge pickup is clear and articulate. One would think a high output bridge will immediately break up but it does not, it stays clear and articulate just like a PAF, until you start to turn the drive up on the amp, then it pushes like a modern pickup but more like an overwound PAF. It is modern, but not with too much compression like some moderns tend to have. I am very satisfied with these.

First-class product where you really can have it all: clarity and balance, and extra ooomph for overdrive and distortion tones. I put a set into a H-H superstrat, and the result is a wonderfully versatile guitar.

These are great. I put them in a Les Paul that I have detuned to baritone tuning, so I’m not sure how much of the dark and beefy sound is coming from the pickups versus the tuning, but the clarity and note separation you can get out of these pickups is exceptional, and definitely helpful for such a low tuning.

  6. David

    Verified Purchase

Absolutely the best bridge pickup I have ever played, installed in a Gibson SG. Huge crunch, nice top end that stays clear but isn’t icepicky, and great note separation, especially for a high output pickup.

  7. Jason Revis

I put a set of high output Fralin in a 1998 Les Paul classic. These are a drastic improvement over the 490/498 Gibson pickups. The Fralin are really defined and tight sounding without any of the muddy flub. They break up pretty quickly but backing off the volume knob allows complete clean up without a noticeable loss of volume. The sound is a harmonic crunchy growl that just sounds perfect for anything with gain from mild to high. I was able to get these to sound pretty close to Allman Bros, Skynard, Clutch, Masters of Reality, Opeth (clean & dirty), Tool, & Slayer. They don’t twang, but it’s a humbucker in a Gibson, none of them really twang. They sound perfect for any type of rock, especially the Marshall or Mesa Boogie types.
