- Lindy Fralin High Output Humbuckers
“Lindy Fralin is best known for his single
coil, and low output vintage-style
humbuckers. Needless to say, a high
output humbucker seemed like quite a
departure from his typical offerings.
Being a high-gain enthusiast, I was
very curious to check out these new
pups. For our review, I loaded the high
output zebra set into a Gibson Historic
'57 Reissue (custom ordered with a
black top).We ran it through a Diezel
Herbert and a Budda Superdrive 80....”

- A PAF Test Run
“...We are going to compare Gibson patent number PAF's, '63 humbuckers (7.3K), '78 reissue PAF's (7.1K), '57 Classic (8.1K) and Classic Plus PAF's (8.5K), Tom Holmes PAF's (8.3K), and Lindy Fralin PAF's (8.9K) and pass the results on to you. We are playing through a Fullton-Webb 18-watt amp. It sounds like a cross between a good plexi Marshall and a new Bogner; in other words, it retains more clarity in the midrange than a Marshall, especially when overdriven...”
“All of these pickups are pretty cool, and each it's own personality. The old Gibsons were great for reference, but believe it or not the panel preferred most of the new pickups to the old ones. This may sound unbelievable, but the opinions of the panel were very consistent and differences in the pickups were very substantial.
This is what we heard:
Grand Prize - Lindy Fralin PAF (8.9K) in a unanimous decision. This pickup had the most output, most character, and most pleasant compression. It has smooth response and great overdriven tones. Biggest and smoothest, hands down. This was the obvious favorite. Double fat!...”
